Dallas Mavericks vs Oklahoma City Thunder Analysis
The Dallas Mavericks will play host to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night at the American Airlines Center. The Thunder watched their record drop to 14-28 as they lost 107-102 at home to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night. The Mavericks improved to 24-19 after they took care of business 108-92 at home against the Orlando Magic. Dallas seems to have the Thunders number, as they won both head-to-head matchups 95-86 at home and 103-84 in Oklahoma City.
Porzingis Dominates in Return
Kristaps Porzingis looked sharp in his return after missing seven straight games on the leagues health and safety protocol list. The Unicorn was back in action against the Orlando Magic, as he scored 12 of his 19 points in the first quarter. Luka Doncic led the way with 23 points, as they Mavericks have now won eight of their last nine games. The Mavs now have their 1-2 combo on the court for the first time in a long while. Amazingly, Dallas is now a team that has its full complement of players with nobody listed on the current injury report. The Dallas Mavericks have played consistently spectacular defense all season long. They rank 5th in defensive efficiency and 3rd in points allowed with only 102.7 a game. Offensively it’s been a different story, they rank 25th with only 104.6 points a game, while playing at the leagues second slowest pace.
Quiet Thunder
It’s been a tough season on this rebuilding Oklahoma City Thunder team already. They built up an 18 point lead before watching the Cavs takeover and ultimately win the game in the 2nd half. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the team with 21 points and seven assists. However the Thunder ended up dropping their 6th game in seven tries. They currently sit with the leagues 4th worst record, including suffering the most one-sided loss in league history 152-79 to the Memphis Grizzlies. The Thunder are basically healthy themselves with only Kenrich Williams on the leagues health and safety protocol list. The Thunder rank dead last in points per game with just over 100 per contest. They also rank 2nd to last in both field goal percentage and offensive efficiency. OKC ranks 13th in points allowed and 16th in defensive efficiency.

The Dallas Mavericks are huge 11.5 favorites with a total set at 209. The under has cashed in 9 of the Mavs last 10 games. Mavericks games have fallen short of this total in three straight as well as 6 of their last 8 games. The Thunder are 16th in pace of play while the Mavericks are 29th. The Thunder are the lowest scoring team in the league by far. They combined for 187 & 181 in their first two matchups. Everything points to the under here and that will be our official play. We just need one team to stumble for a quarter or two to cash this ticket.

Both of these teams have distinct “under” trends, with Dallas 15-4 scoring lower than expected at American Airlines Center this season (28-13 “under” overall) with HC Jason Kidd’s new emphasis on defense coming to fruition, while Oklahoma City is 24-18 “under” this season. The Mavericks have won five of the last six straight up against OKC, covering four of those games, but more pertinent to the situation is that the “under” is 2-0 this season in a pair of games when the Thunder scored only 86 and 85 points making the “under” 8-2-1 last 10 in the series.
