Golden State Warriors vs Minnesota Timberwolves Analysis
The Minnesota Timberwolves travel to the Chase Center for Western Conference clash with the Golden State Warriors in the 2nd game of TNT’s Thursday night doubleheader. The Warriors destroyed the Dallas Mavericks by a score of 130-92 on Tuesday night. Golden State now has a 35-13 record which is 2nd best in the NBA.
Meanwhile the Timberwolves edged out the Portland Trailblazers 109-107 as they improved to 24-23 on the season. This will be the third of four meetings between these squads while they split the first two games with each team winning at home. Golden State won 123-110 with both teams at full strength, while the T’Wolves won 119-99 against the Warriors 2nd stringers.
The Ultimate Warriors
The Golden State Warriors crushed the Dallas Mavericks 130-92 in their most recent game. Steph Curry has struggled at points recently, but led the way with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Klay Thompson returned and scored 15 points to go with 6 assists after he sat out two games. Thompson missed one game to avoid playing a back-to-back and another game with soreness in his surgically repaired knee.
Draymond Green has been out of action since January 9th with a calf injury and isn’t expected to return for another two weeks. Andre Iguodala has also been ruled out for this game with a hip injury. The Warriors rank 12th in points scored with just shy of 110 points a game. Golden State ranks #1 in both defensive efficiency and points allowed to their opponents.
The Pack is Close to Full Strength
The Minnesota Timberwolves outlasted the pesky Portland Trailblazers 109-107 on Tuesday night. The Twolves moved over .500 at 24-23 as they surpassed their win total from last season. Anthony Edwards led his team to victory with 40 points, his fourth career 40 point game. Edwards also had 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks while hitting 5 three-pointers. Karl Anthony-Towns also added a 17 point 17 rebound double double.
The Wolves have been in great form, winning 8 of their last 11 games while surging into 6th place in the Western Conference. Minnesota is relatively healthy with only Patrick Beverley being questionable and Jaylen Nowell being day-to-day coming into this game. The Twolves rank 9th with 111 points scored per game and 18th in points allowed with 109.9 a game.
Golden State Warriors vs Minnesota Timberwolves Prediction
The Golden State Warriors come into this game as six point favorites with an over/under of 229. It’s a good sign for the Timberwolves that they are only six point underdogs in Golden State. They are close to fully healthy and have won four of their last five games. Minnesota has performed well as an underdog this season, going 14-12 against the spread and 10-7 against the spread as a road dog.
With Draymond Green out and Klay Thompson working his way back from injury, there is less certainty around Steph Curry and the Warriors recently. Curry has hit only 29 of 127 three-point attempts this month after going 1 for 13 from beyond the arc last time out.
This young wolves team should give the Warriors all they can handle. It will be a big game for them to prove they are legit future contender in the Western Conference. Golden State may win in the end, but covering could be a different story. The Timberwolves +6 will be our official play for this contest.
