Grizzlies vs Knicks Analysis

After a slow NBA Thursday with just two games, the league is back with a packed schedule on Friday. Tonight is the second and final meeting between the Grizzlies and the Knicks this season and it should be an exciting matchup.

The Knicks are playing some of their best basketball this season, but so are the Grizzlies. The last time these two teams played in early February the Grizzlies won in MSG and covered the spread.

Grizz on the Hunt

With only 15 games left in the regular season, the Memphis Grizzlies are sitting pretty as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. This season, the Grizzlies are 23-10 on their home court, and in their last 14 home games, they are 12-2.

What is even more impressive is they have covered the spread 11 times in their previous 12 home wins. The Grizzlies are set to be missing Dillon Brooks for this matchup, but that shouldn’t be too concerning.

The Ja Morant Factor

With this game being televised on NBATV, I am willing to bet that the broadcast crew will mention at least one time that Ja Morant was selected one spot before the Knicks could pick him in the draft.

While Ja is already in the midst of All-NBA first-team ascension, it’s not like the Knicks even had the chance to secure Morant, or should be upset with RJ Barett being their guy. Speaking of RJ, he is averaging 27.3 points per game over the Knicks’ last ten games.

The Knicks have won their last three games and are 3.5 games behind the Hawks for the final spot in the play-in tourney, which means every game from here on out is a must-win. The Knicks also just lost forward Cam Reddish for the rest of the season.

Grizzlies vs Knicks Prediction

The Grizzlies have played the entire season with the utmost confidence, and the Knicks have been subpar or worse for the majority of the season. The way Ja Morant is playing, and with all the talk about how the Knicks do not have a single true point guard on the roster, I believe Ja Morant will drop over 30 points tonight on his home court. However, I think the Knicks have enough to stay within single digits and cover this 9.5-point spread.

It will not be easy, and while I expect the Grizzlies to play hard, I think the Knicks will continue to show some fight. While I do not think the Knicks will make the playoffs, or are a good basketball team, I think they show pride tonight and cover. Take the points.
