Grizzlies vs Warriors Analysis

The Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies square off for Game 2 of this best of seven 2nd round playoff series.

The Warriors edged out the Grizzlies 117-116 in a highly competitive game on Sunday afternoon. It goes without saying that this is a critical game for the Grizz, so FedEx Forum should be rocking. Tip off is slated for 9:30 PM EST.

Grizzlies Lose Home Court Advantage

The Memphis Grizzlies lost Game 1 at home, thus giving up homecourt advantage as they did in Round 1 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. They lost Game 1 despite Jaren Jackson Jr. scoring a career high 33 points on 6 of 9 shooting from beyond the arc.

Jackson exploited the Warriors big men that were unable to keep up with him on the perimeter. Jackson could be the x-factor in this series if he can manage to stay out of foul trouble.

Ja Morant led the way in Game 1, falling just short of a triple double with a 34 point, 10 assist and 9 rebounds. Unfortunately his potential game game winning layup went wide as time expired.

Memphis shot just 43% from the field and Desmond Bane went just 3 for 10 only managing 9 points after averaging 20+ in the first round. A major concern in Game 1 was the Grizzlies bench being outscored 45-30 after completely dominating the Timberwolves in round one.

Jordan Pooles return to the bench gave the Warriors instant offense, while guard Tyus Jones scored only two points.

Warriors Guards Lead The Way

The Golden State Warriors were able to sneak out of Game 1 with a victory despite losing veteran leader Draymond Green to flagrant 2 foul ejection in the first half. The Warriors were able to regroup and pull out a one point victory 117-116.

Klay Thompson hit what proved to be a game winning three-pointer shot with 37 seconds to go. Directly afterwards Ja Morant missed a layup as time expired and the Warriors left as winners.

Jordan Poole came off the bench as Steph Curry returned to the starting lineup and scored a career high 31 points. Poole not only led the team in scoring with 31 but also assists with 9 and rebounds with 8.

The Warriors needed the effort from Poole as Curry and Thompson combined to shoot only 14 for 29 from the field. Memphis will need to make adjustments as Green will be back and you can’t expect Curry & Thompson to shoot that poorly again.

Grizzlies vs Warriors Prediction

The Golden State Warriors are 2 point road favorites with a total set at 227.5. Everything inside me wants to play Memphis as their backs will be up against a wall if they lose tonight. But the facts are the Warriors beat the Grizz without Draymond Green and with Curry and Thompson shooting horribly.

These are the two highest scoring teams in the playoffs, the Warriors are averaging 117.8 points a game while the Grizz average 114.9 per game.

The Warriors Guards can create plays and shoot the lights out from anywhere on the court. Golden State had no answers defensively for Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson.

Both teams have played with a tremendously fast pace of play in the post-season and that should continue tonight. I’m rolling with the over in Game 2.

Prediction: Over 227.5
