Hawks vs Raptors Analysis
Two Eastern Conference rivals square off when the Atlanta Hawks head north of the border for a showdown with the Toronto Raptors. It’s a quick turnaround for both teams who were victorious in home games just last night.
The Hawks added an impressive win to their resume with a 124-115 victory over the leagues best team the Phoenix Suns. Meanwhile the Raptors defeated the Chicago Bulls in overtime 127-120.
These teams met for the first time just four days ago, the Raptors secured the victory in Atlanta 106-100.
Hot Hawks Seek Revenge in Toronto
The Atlanta Hawks improved to 25-26 as the snapped the red hot Phoenix Suns 11 game winning streak. The Hawks have now won eight of their last nine games, ironically the only loss in the run was against tonight’s opponent the Toronto Raptors.
To no surprise, Trae Young led his team with 43 points while adding 5 assists. John Collins chipped in with a 19 point, 10 rebound double double. I can’t imagine Collins will be playing in a back-to-back after suffering what looked to be a potential separated shoulder late in the 4th quarter.
Other than Collins, the only player on the injury report is Lou Williams being questionable with back spasms. If the season ended today, the Hawks would land in the play in round as the number 10 seed.
During post-game, Trae Young stated that their goal is the 6 seed or better to avoid the play in games. Atlanta scores and allows just over 111 points per game, ranking them 8th and 23rd respectively.
Raptors Shred Bulls in Overtime
Scottie Barnes hit a last second shot to force overtime where the Toronto Raptors outscored the Chicago Bulls 13-6 and ultimately won 127-120.
This Raptors won their fourth straight game, upping their overall record to 27-23. Pascal Siakim paced the team with 25 points and 13 rebounds.
Fred VanVleet was one of three players to add 21 points in the contest. VanVleet was honored prior to the game for his selection as an All-Star reserve in the Eastern Conference. He is the first un-drafted player to make an All-Star squad since Ben Wallace way back in 2006.
The Raptors sport a clean injury report, although that could change considering this is the 2nd game of a back-to-back. Toronto stands at 21st in scoring defense with 107.5 points per game and 9th in scoring defense with 106.5 points allowed to their rivals.
Hawks vs Raptors Prediction
The Toronto Raptors open as 2.5 point favorites with a 217.5 over/under. Both teams are playing the second game of a back-to-back, so there is no major rest advantage to be had here.
The one edge goes to the Raptors as they played at home last night, while the Hawks had to travel after a hard fought victory in Atlanta. Weather in the northeast is supposed to be a bit nasty which could impede travel and that can’t be overlooked.
Both teams are hot recently as the Hawks are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight, while the Raptors are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games. Both are trending towards low scoring games. Toronto has cashed the under in 9 of their last 13 games, while Atlanta has went under in four of their last five.
I really don’t see John Collins playing tonight and while Young isn’t listed on the injury report he was close to not playing just last night. Both teams on back-to-back’s but the Raptors played at home. Without Collins, Siakim and Scottie Barnes should have a field day. I’m going with the Raptors in this one.
Prediction: Toronto Raptors -2.5

Hawks vs Raptors Preview from GoldSheet
Both teams played last night, Atlanta off an upset of the Phoenix Suns, halting the Western Conference leader’s 11-game winning streak with a 124-115 victory.
The Hawks benefited from another big game from Trae Young (43 pts) but might’ve lost PF John Collins with a shoulder injury late in that contest. Toronto gave away a 6-point lead with 2:04 remaining and were forced to overtime by Chicago but scored the final 7 pts. in OT for a 127-120 decision.
Atlanta, which has won eight straight with Trae Young in the lineup, has turned the series around a bit of late, winning three of last four and covering four of last seven after at one time suffering through a 10-game straight up series losing streak.
The first meeting this season was played on Monday, when Toronto won 106-100 victory in Atlanta a result that ended the Hawks’ 7-game winning streak as Gary Trent Jr. had a 31-point outing, but Young was given the off night in in the 2nd of back-to-back games. Could that be the plan tonight?
There’s a reason the Hawks are 3-6 straight up and against the number in 2nd night of back-to-back games. And there’s a reason deeper Toronto is 6-2 straight up and 7-1 when unrested as well.
