Indiana Pacers vs Atlanta Hawks Predictions

  • Indiana Pacers -1.5 vs Atlanta Hawks
  • Total: 217.5 Points
  • Atlanta is 2-9 against the spread on the road this season.
  • The under is 12-6 in the Pacers’ last 18 games.
  • The Pacers have won nine of the last ten meetings between these teams in Indiana.

The Atlanta Hawks look to bounce back from a 99-90 loss against the New York Knicks in Indiana against the Pacers on Wednesday night. That loss snapped a seven-game win streak for Atlanta and left them with an 11-10 record on the season. The Indiana Pacers sit at 9-14 and look to break a two game losing streak after a 100-98 loss in Minnesota against the Timberwolves on Monday night. The Indiana Pacers are 8-2 straight up in their last ten meetings with the Atlanta Hawks.

The Atlanta Hawks got off to a horrendous start but are currently ranked 10th in the Eastern Conference sitting only 3.5 games behind Brooklyn for the top spot. The Hawks are just 3-8 straight up and 2-9 ATS on the road this season. However their last two wins were commanding road victories. Atlanta won 124-106 in San Antonio against the Spurs last Wednesday and also won 132-100 in Memphis on Friday night.

The Hawks leader is Trae Young who leads the team in scoring with 26 points a game and assists with 9 per game. Young has been on a great run as he’s led his team in scoring the last 4 games. Clint Capela has been rock solid in the paint, leading the team in rebounding with 12.7 a game and is 3rd on the squad in scoring with 12.1 points per game. The Hawks rank 6th in scoring with 110.4 points a game, while Atlanta has improved on defense recently they still rank only 23rd in defensive rating. Bogdan Bogdanovic and DeAndre Hunter are both injured and will not play Wednesday while Cam Reddish is also questionable.

The Indiana Pacers struggled to begin the season losing 6 of their first 7 games and haven’t been able to string together more than two wins in a row to dig themselves out of that hole. The Pacers have had the most success at Bankers Life Fieldhouse where they are 6-4 both straight up and against the spread. Malcolm Brogdon leads the team in scoring with 20.8 points per game and assists with 5.9 a game. Domantas Sabonis leads the team and sits 5th in the NBA with 12 rebounds a night while also averaging 17.3 points per game. The Indiana Pacers are a middling team as they rank 13th in points allowed per game and 17th in points scored. The Pacers have been without T.J. Warren all season and Myles Turner is questionable on Wednesday night.

Neither team has a distinct advantage early in games as they both are middle of the pack in first half ATS. The Pacers are 6-4 ATS at home while the Hawks are only 2-9 ATS away from home. Indiana is favored by 1 with the total set at 217.5. The under has cashed in 4 of Atlanta’s past 5 games against Eastern Conference opponents and 12 of the Pacers last 18 games overall.

The Hawks are coming off a hot stretch, but still have only covered the spread in 18% of their road games this season. The Pacers are like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as they have wins against teams like the Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls and losses against the likes of the New Orleans Pelicans and Minnesota Timberwolves.

I’m finding it hard to back a side in this one so we will roll with the under 217.5. Both teams are quite familiar with each other and the Hawks are missing a solid chuck of offense without Bogdanovic, Hunter and potential Reddish.

We have official numbers set for player props and that’s where I find my favorite play in this game. Clint Capela had 2 amazing games in three contests against the Indiana Pacers last season. Capela had a game with 25 points and 24 rebounds as well as 24 point 10 rebound performance in the two games Myles Turner played head-to-head with him. Even in Capela’s worst game against Indiana, he still had 10 points and 9 rebounds. The points + rebounds prop for Capela is 25.5, a number I’m comfortable rolling with based of prior performance.

Official Play #1: Clint Capela OVER 25.5 Pts+Rebs
Official Play #2: UNDER 217.5

Indiana Pacers vs Atlanta Hawks Analysis from The GoldSheet

Indiana has been playing in small streaks this season, and the Pacers are coming off losses here at Bankers Life Fieldhouse Sunday and at Minnesota on Monday but are now back home where they have won and covered five of the last seven. Atlanta has also been on streaks this season, going 3-1 to start, losing eight of their next nine, and most recently just had their seven-game winning run broken by the Knicks on Saturday. Generally, those winning runs were linked to playing at home, losing fits coming on the road.

HC Nate McMillan’s Hawks thinning, as F Bogdan Bogdanovic (sprained ankle) joining G Cam Reddish (wrist) and De’Andre Hunter (wrist) on the sidelines. Meanwhile, the Pacers have won seven-straight and nine of last ten hosting the Hawks, and the short price laid here negates the fact Atlanta has covered three of the last four of their Bankers Life Fieldhouse losses. Indiana is 6-2 vs. the points after their last eight losses and would look for that to continue against a Hawk side that has lost seven of its last nine against the number on the road. Check status on Pacer C Myles Turner, who missed Monday’s trip to Minnesota with a non-Covid illness.
