Indiana Pacers vs New Orleans Pelicans Analysis

The Pacers will wrap up a road trip tonight at New Orleans as they continue to be without Brogdon, Sabonis, and Turner. The Pelicans won’t have Brandon Ingram to try and even things out though, so this matchup will feature some unexpected names and faces in this one. The Pelicans will be -3 point favorites with a total of 215.5 in this one, and while this game may not seem exciting on the surface, there should be a play we make tonight.

Pelicans Without Ingram

Not having Ingram tonight is a big deal, as he’s their best offensive threat, and this is a game New Orleans has a great chance to win, and it’s the worst team the play until February as they get Philly, Denver, Boston, and Cleveland after this. It’s tough to see the bright side of the lineup tonight as Ingram is out, and he’s the #1 scorer on this team, and Graham is questionable with a bad ankle and he’s the #3 scorer on this team. They’re coming off of three games where they scored 105, 92, and 91 and if Ingram and Graham aren’t there it’s hard to see where the points come from, even though they’re facing a banged up Pacers team. I won’t even look at against the spread and Totals trends for this team as their roster is different tonight than it has been the last few games.

Indiana in Limbo

The trade rumors are swirling with this team, and it makes sense that they are sitting Sabonis as I’m sure they’re getting plenty of offers for him. They beat the Lakers and Golden State and lost to Phoenix in their last three games, and Brogdon and Lavert continue to be the “GAME TIME DECISIONS” brothers so it can be tough to figure this team out these days. Duarte has taken advantage of the absences of Brogdon and Lavert, and will probably do the same tonight. They’ve scored 111 or more in three out of four games, and against a depleted New Orleans team they could have a surprising performance.

Indiana Pacers vs New Orleans Pelicans Prediction

I actually like this Indiana team without Sabonis and Turner. They throw waves of guys out there, and the ball moves quicker creating an actual semblance of an organized offense. Duarte is playing solid ball, and losing to the Suns is nothing to be down about. They won the two previous games, and I think they win tonight, and I don’t even want the points. Not having Ingram is going to be too much for New Orleans to overcome, I like the Pacers to cover and win.

Indiana Pacers vs New Orleans Pelicans Preview from GoldSheet

Not the worst road trip for the Pacers, who count wins at the Lakers and Warriors thus far on this away swing that concludes tonight at Smoothie King. None of this really figured with Indiana very shorthanded in recent games, down the starting backcourt duo of Malcolm Brogdon and Caris LeVert, along with starting center Domantas Sabonis due to injuries, but some new heroes have emerged, like Oregon rookie wing Chris Duarte (scored 24 at the Clippers and 27 in the win at Golden State on this trip) and a collective effort at San Francisco last Thursday when seven Pacers scored in double digits, and another six in double figures in Saturday’s loss at Phoenix when Indy made a run in the 4th quarter.

Tonight, however, is a homecoming for the Pels who have won their last three in ‘Nawlins including a W vs. the Warriors as Willie Green’s troops continue to claw back from that awful 1-12 break from the gate (Pels are 16-16 straight up since). But the key cog in the surge to respectability, Brandon Ingram, is likely a no-go tonight after twisting an ankle last Thursday vs. the Knicks at MSG, and note that the Pels are 1-8 SU in games this season that Ingram has missed.

Moreover, third-leading scorer Devonte Graham (ankle) is also a question mark for tonight. Note that even with Ingram available, NO lost decisively at Indy on Nov. 20, though the Pacers had most of their hands on deck that night, including Sabonis, who scored a game-high 20. No matter, Indy has played thru its recent absences, while the Pels have dropped off considerably when sans Ingram this term.
Play Indiana.
