Jazz vs Warriors Analysis

In the second game of ESPN’s Wednesday night doubleheader, the Golden State Warriors wrap up a two game road trip as they head to Utah for a Western Conference clash with the Jazz. The Warriors won their 9th straight game 110-98 over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night. The Jazz picked up their 3rd straight victory at home over the New York Knicks by a final score of 113-104.

Golden State prevailed in both of the head-to-head meetings between these squads. The Warriors picked up a 94-92 victory at home a few weeks ago and a 123-116 win in Utah on New Years Day.

Mitchell and Jazz Bounce Back

The Utah Jazz were in a free fall in the Western Conference standings as they had dropped 11 of 13 games and temporarily fell below .600 on the season. However they may have turned the corner after winning three straight games. A big factor in their last two victories has been the return of their leader Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell had missed a little over two weeks of action as he was unable to play due to a concussion. He picked up right where he left off, scoring 27 and 32 points in two games since he returned.

Mitchell wasn’t the only injury Utah had to deal with as Rudy Gobert has also missed extended time with a calf injury. Gobert is listed as questionable, while Rudy Gay is day-to-day with a nagging knee injury. The Jazz still have the best scoring offense in the league with an average of 113.6 points a game, while ranking 13th in scoring defense with 107.5 points allowed to their opponents.

Warriors’ Win Streak at Nine

The Golden State are once again on fire as they won their ninth straight game over Oklahoma City to improve to 41-13 on the season. Klay Thompson led the way with 21 points while shooting 3 for 8 from beyond the arc. The Phoenix Suns are the only team in the league with a better record than the Warriors.

Warriors are now the team dealing with a boatload of injuries as Draymond Green and James Wiseman are both out indefinitely. Klay Thompson will miss Wednesday nights contest due to rest as he continues to get back in playing shape. Andre Iguodala will also be out, while Kevon Looney is questionable. The Warriors rank 2nd in scoring defense only allowing 102.6 points a game and 12th in scoring offense with 110.9 points per game.

Jazz vs Warriors Prediction

The Utah Jazz are 1.5-point favorites with the total set at 224 points. Both teams come into this one on winning streaks and missing key players. The Jazz will have revenge on their minds as the Warriors have already beat them twice this season. Utah fell just short 94-92 a few weeks ago, but they were without Donovan Mitchell. Tonight it’s the Warriors who are short-handed without Klay Thompson amongst others.

Utah is still without Gobert, but the Warriors lack big men of their own to take advantage of that. Steph Curry just hasn’t been himself recently, while Mitchell seems like he is on a mission. We are going to ride with the home team here and lay the small number of points with the Jazz.

Official Play: Utah Jazz -1.5

Jazz vs Warriors Preview from GoldSheet

Golden State has won nine-straight games, but is just 4-4-2 vs. the pointspread in its last ten, including Utah as one of those victims via a 94-92 decision at the Chase Center on Jan. 23. That was the Warriors’s fourth-straight win against the Jazz, despite Steph Curry being held to 20.5 ppg and shooting only 34% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc.

Now there were few standouts for the Warriors in this season’s meetings, and the Jazz won’t have to face Klay Thompson in this one, as he’s been ruled out early. Thompson will be rested tonight as this game is the first of a set of back-to-back games. Utah ace G Donovan Mitchell only played in one previous meeting, scoring 20 points, but he seems ready for a big stage now as he just scored 32 pts. with 7 rebs., 6 assists and 4 steals.
