Lakers vs Mavericks Analysis

The Dallas Mavericks remain in California for a showdown with the Los Angeles Lakers in the second game of TNT’s Tuesday Night Doubleheader.

The Lakers may have to wear brown paper bags on their heads to enter their own arena after being completely embarrassed against the New Orleans Pelicans 123-95 on Sunday night. Meanwhile the Dallas Mavericks are coming off a thrilling 107-101 comeback victory over the Golden State Warriors.

The Lakers won game one of this three game regular season series 107-104 on the road in overtime. The third and final regular season showdown will be back in Dallas on March 29th.

The Lakers Just Committed Another Turnover…

The Los Angeles Lakers fell to 27-33 after being throttled by the New Orleans Pelicans Sunday night. The Lakers were abysmal on both sides of the ball, shooting only 41.7% from the field and 20.6% from three-point land while committing 23 turnovers. They also gave up on defense and allowed 44 points in the third quarter.

Lebron James was sure to hang in there and make sure he scored his 32 points in garbage time. Russell Westbrook looked completely lost scoring 16 points on 5-for-15 shooting from the field. While the other three starters combined for a pathetic 11 points.

The Lakers have now lost 14 of their last 20 and five of their last six games. Anthony Davis and Avery Bradley will both be out of Tuesday nights contest. Davis will miss at least a few more weeks and his absence will be a huge blow against a tough Mavericks team. Lebron James is once again listed as day-to-day with an unspecified minor injury.

The Lakers rank 12th in scoring with just over 110 points a game and 24th in scoring defense with 112.4 points allowed to their opponents.

Mavericks’ Top Gun Continues Explosive Run

The Dallas Mavericks improved to 36-25 with an outstanding come from behind victory over the Golden State Warriors. They managed to overcome a huge 19 point 4th quarter deficit, outscoring the Dubs 33-13 in final frame. Luka Doncic had 34 points and 11 rebounds in another outstanding performance. Spencer Dinwiddie also added 24 points on 10 of 14 shooting.

The Slovenian superstar has been unstoppable of late with an average of 34.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 8.8 assists over his last 10 games. Dallas has now won seven of their last nine games, while going 3-1 in their last four games on the road.

The Mavericks have no injuries listed to any of their key contributors. The Mavs rank second in defensive scoring with only 103.4 points allowed and 25th in scoring with just over 106 points per game.

Lakers vs Mavericks Prediction

The Dallas Mavericks enter this contest as 5.5-point road favorites with a total of 216.5 points. It’s hard to know what to expect from the Lakers after being booed on their own court in Sunday nights embarrassment. Do they bounce back with a big effort or have they completely given up?

One thing for sure is that they are struggling to score, which is bad news against a defense like the Dallas Mavericks. The under has cashed 6 of the last 9 Mavs games and 4 of the past 5 Lakers games. I’m expecting a better and more methodical effort from Los Angeles, especially on defense. Under 216.5 will be our play here.
