Los Angeles Clippers vs Brooklyn Nets Analysis
The Nets got the win without Kevin Durant against the Lakers on Saturday, and they’ll look to hand the other LA team a loss tonight before they return home as the Nets are -4 against the Clippers tonight with a total of 213.5 points.
The Clippers lost by three to Denver last night as they are having to get used to life without Paul George as he is out for a minimum 3-4 weeks. Both teams are missing their big star, but is there a wager to be made here?
I wasn’t high on the Clippers before the season started as I did not like their depth and I thought they were a Paul George injury away from being a fairly bad team, and here we are. They’ve now lost four out of five, and without PG and Reggie Jackson this could be a tough stretch as they face Brooklyn twice and the Celtic over the next six days.
Over the last five games the Clippers have yet to score over 105 points, and they’ve faced some teams they should score way more points than that (SAC, OKC, SA). Last nights lineup will be what they will be working with today, and it was eye opening as Brandon Boston Jr. was tied as their leading scorer with Eric Bledsoe. They don’t have any shot creators last night and they only scored 100 points against a Denver team who is struggling right now.
The Nets hadn’t played since December 18th, and Harden came out on fire with a triple double going for 36-10-10 while Patty Mills added 34 points. It was definitely an indictment of how bad the perimeter defense is for the Lakers right now, and they’ll probably need similar performances tonight. Only four Net’s players had double digit points in that game, and the bench only contributed 12 points.
Two talented guards, Dejounte Murray and Tyrese Haliburton, have recently had big games against this Clippers team so I expect Harden to be able to thrive tonight. The other interesting matchup is what impact Zubac will have tonight. Brooklyn will be playing small all night, so he might be able to dominate inside, or on the flip side he might be unplayable as he’s such a defensive liability to smaller lineups.
I’ve been skeptical about this Clippers team all season, and I think this could be a really bad stretch for them. If Harden gets the Nets going early, the Clippers don’t have the weapons to keep up. They couldn’t keep up with Denver last night who is a bottom tier team in pace of play while Brooklyn plays at the 6th fasted pace. Brooklyn will have the best player on the floor tonight by far, so I’ll take them to handle the Clippers who are playing a back to back and win by margin.

Los Angeles Clippers vs Brooklyn Nets Preview from GoldSheet
Clippers are going to be without leading scorer Paul George for 3-4 weeks with a torn ligament in his elbow, starting PG Reggie Jackson is questionable due to quarantine, PF Marcus Morris is just coming out of quarantine and is trying to get back up to playing speed, while on the Brooklyn side, Kevin Durant (30 ppg, 8 repg, 6 apg) and C LaMarcus Aldridge plus 4 other day players are all out with Covid quarantine, Kyrie Irving is likewise having Covid/conditioning issues and Joe Harris has been out for a while.
Still, James Harden and Patty Mills are both better scorers than almost all available Clippers, Blake Griffin wouldn’t mind sticking it to his ex-employers and Paul Millsap would likely love some additional minutes. The Clippers have lost 4 of their last 5 headed into this game, although they did sneak in under the 3½-point line in the 103-100 loss to Denver yesterday. LA 0-4 vs. the number this season when unrested. Play Brooklyn.
