Los Angeles Clippers vs New Orleans Pelicans Analysis

The New Orleans Pelicans travel to Staples Center for an elimination play-in game with the Los Angeles Clippers.

*Breaking news*!!! As of the writing of this article it’s been announced that Paul George has been ruled out for this game as he enters the leagues health and safety protocol list.

It’s been a while since of strung together that group of words. So with that we have the benefit of the seeing the latest lines, early bird catches the worm but late bird gets the biggest worm?

Anyway, the New Orleans Pelicans defeated the San Antonio Spurs 113-103 to advance to this elimination game.

The Clips blew a lead and chance to advance in a 109-104 loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves. New Orleans won the four game regular season series 3-1 with Los Angeles salvaging the most recent game 119-100.

By George We Have a Problem

As mentioned earlier the Los Angeles Clippers will be without the services of Paul George as he enters the leagues health and safety protocol list.

This is a concern, as even with George on the court they could only muster up 104 points against the weak Twolves defense. George also led the team in scoring with 34 points, while Norman Powell added 16 off the bench.

The Clips may need to focus on defense, they did hold Minnesota to 109 points. That’s right around their season average of 108.4, which ranked them 11th best in the NBA.

Pelicans Look To Take Advantage of Recent News

We don’t want to make this game all about Paul George, but it’s difficult to think of a more critical player on either side.

The Pelicans stepped up their defensive game a few nights ago, holding the San Antonio Spurs to 103 points. CJ McCollum was lights out with 32 points on 12-23 shooting to go along with 7 assists and 6 rebounds.

Brandon Ingram added 27 points of his own and Jonas Valanciunas dropped a 22 point, 14 rebound double double. New Orleans had great success against the Clippers this season, winning three of four games by 13, 21 and 24 points.

They still need to come into this game with the mindset of this being an absolute battle, even without Paul George.

Los Angeles Clippers vs New Orleans Pelicans Prediction

The New Orleans Pelicans are now favored by one point with a total of 215.5. Sometimes when a team losses their best player they band together and win with a complete team effort.

But you have to wonder what the psyche of this team is after getting the proverbial rug pulled out from under them this morning. New Orleans now has the best two players on the court.

We obviously missed the best of the number as we could have landed the Pels +4. However I don’t think it matters as I still think they will be victorious and cover what’s basically a pick’em spread.

Prediction: New Orleans Pelicans -1
