Los Angeles Lakers vs Dallas Mavericks Betting Analysis
The Dallas Mavericks head to Los Angeles for Western Conference clash with the Lakers on Thursday evening. The Lakers lost 122-109 in Denver against the Nuggets on Monday night. The Mavericks lost to the other LA team 113-101 against the Clippers on Tuesday.
This is the second of four regular season meetings as Dallas prevailed 124-115 at home on Christmas Day. Tip-off is slated for 10:00 PM EST/7:00 PST as the nightcap of a TNT Thursday night doubleheader.
Lakers Limp Into Meeting With Mavericks
The Los Angeles Lakers record dropped to 19-22 on the season after losing in Denver on Thursday. The Nuggs had a big edge from beyond the arc as they went 15-42 for 35.7% while LA went only 8-28 for 28.6%.
Russell Westbrook led the team in scoring with 25 points off the bench while adding 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Thomas Bryant recorded a 17 point, 10 rebound double-double while Kendrick Nunn chipped in with 15 off the bench.
The Lakers rank 7th in scoring with 116.7 points per game on 48.6% from the field. Defense has been an issue for Los Angeles as they sit a 22nd in defensive rating and 27th in defensive scoring with 117.8 points allowed per game.
The Lakers have been decimated by injuries as Anthony Davis, Lonnie Walker IV and Austin Reeves have all already been ruled out for this contest. On top of that, Patrick Beverley is listed as questionable while Lebron James and Troy Brown Jr are both probable.
Mavericks Look To Snap Two Game Skid
The Dallas Mavericks record dipped to 23-19 on the season after losing their second straight game against the Clippers on Tuesday. The Mavericks were dominated down low as they were out-rebounded 46-32 and outscored in the paint by the same number of 46-32.
No surprise, Luka Doncic led all scorers, rebounders and assist-men with 43 points along with 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Tim Hardaway Jr added 16 points while Spencer Dinwiddie chipped in with 13 points and 5 assists.
Dallas has struggled on the road this season with a 7-13 record. The Mavericks also struggle to score as a team as they sit at 23rd with an average of 112.1 points on 46.9% from the field. They also rank 23rd in defensive rating, but 7th in defensive scoring with 111 points allowed per game.
Dorian Finney-Smith, Josh Green and Maxi Kleber have all already been ruled out for this contest while Dwight Powell is questionable with a hip injury.
Los Angeles Lakers vs Dallas Mavericks Player Prop Prediction
The Dallas Mavericks are favored by 2.5 points over the Los Angeles Lakers with a total set at 235.5. This is Western battle between two teams hovering around as both have struggled with injuries lately.
The Lakers are especially thin as they rely heavily on Lebron James to put up points. James needs 35 points to reach 38,000 career points, sitting behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time NBA scoring list.
LeBron scored 38 points against the Mavs on 13-23 from the field on Christmas Day. Dallas was missing their lock down defender in Dorian Finney-Smith and he is out again tonight.
Without Davis & company James will surely be taking 20+ shots while consistently getting to the charity stripe.
James point prop is admittedly through the roof at 32.5, but he has eclipsed that in 3 of his last 4 games with 37, 43 & 47 points. Let’s back James to chase history tonight and take his points over.
