After the Association took the Thanksgiving Day holiday off, Friday’s slate of events is filled with slam dunk action. The Atlanta Hawks (10-9, 9th in NBA – East) are on the Mississippi River for a Friday night tilt against the Memphis Grizzlies (9-9, 7th in NBA – West). The home-court Grizzlies have a 6-4 overall record playing the role of host. The Hawks are 2-8 on the road in the early stages of the 2021-22 NBA campaign.

Atlanta began a short two-game road trip with a win. On Wednesday, the Hawks traveled to San Antonio as 3.5-point road favorites and came away with a 124-106 victory over the Spurs. Memphis hosted the Eastern Conference Toronto Raptors on Thanksgiving eve as 3.5-point home favorites. The Grizzlies weren’t good enough offensively to outscore the Raptors in a 126-113 loss in a game that went over the total of 217.5

Trae Young is eighth in the NBA, averaging 25.3 points per game. Atlanta is the second-best shooting team in the Eastern Conference from beyond the arc connecting at a 37.1% clip. The Hawks Skylar Mays shoots the best percentage on the team, hitting 50 percent of his three-point shots.

Center Clint Capela is having a career year for the Hawks. The frontcourt starter is averaging 11.3 points and 12 rebounds per game. The Hawks are averaging 113.5 points per game in their last ten games and are surrendering just 108.5 points with a record of 6-4.

Ja Morant is eighth in the NBA, averaging 25.3 points per game. and The Grizzlies are averaging 109.8 points per game while allowing 117.4 across their last ten games with a 4-6.

The Atlanta Hawks have some question marks about their starting lineup tonight, and which reserves will be active. Trae Young and Bogdan Bogdanovic are listed as day-to-day, while Onyeka Okongwu has been ruled out.

Despite Atlanta’s 2-8 road record, their recent play and 2-week metrics position them head and shoulders better on both ends of the court than Memphis, and that shows up tonight with the Hawks coming away with a straight-up road win and against the number cover.
