The 15-12 Philadelphia 76ers travel to FedEx Forum for a showdown with the 16-11 Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. The 76ers are coming off an impressive 102-93 victory at home against the Golden State Warriors. Meanwhile the Memphis Grizzlies held on for a 113-106 victory over the Houston Rockets in their last game on Saturday night.
Both teams come into this game in great form as the Grizz have won 7 of their last 8 games while the 76ers have won 4 of their last 5.
You have to respect the amazing 7-1 run Memphis has been on since superstar Ja Morant went down with injury. The Grizz have done it with defense, as they have held 5 of their last 7 opponents under 100 points. Dillon Brooks is an elite defender who also leads the team in scoring with 17.1 points a game, including 25 points in his last game against Houston. Brooks and Desmond Bane have provided the offense as the Grizz have averaged just over 110 points a game.
Steven Adams leads the team in rebounds with 8.7 a game, however his status is in question against the 76ers after an ankle injury last time out. Injuries continue to pile up, as Jaren Jackson Jr. is also questionable for Memphis on Monday night. While it’s been amazing what the Grizz have done without Morant, you have to wonder how it will take before injuries to bring them back down to earth.
Philadelphia bounced back with a signature win against Golden State after an ugly loss to Utah. MVP-cailbre big man Joel Embiid has carried the 76ers since coming back from his bout with Covid. He’s averaged 24.2 points and 10.8 rebounds a game while shooting 38% from beyond the arc. If Steven Adams plays, Embiid is going to be able pull up from a distance and beat him on the boards.
If Adams is out, Embiid and Tobias Harris will cause havoc in the paint. The 76ers defense came alive last game, holding the Warriors to under 100 points for only the second time this season. They have an elite defender of their own in Matisse Thybulle who blanketed Steph Curry and held him to 6 for 20 from the field. The 76ers are middle of the pack in scoring and defense on the season, but this team is just finally getting healthy.
The Philadelphia 76ers are road favorites by three points with an over/under set at 210.5. The 76ers have struggled against the Grizz as they are only 3-13 in their last 16 head-to-head meetings. The Grizz are one of the most resilient teams in the league, but eventually there comes a time when the injuries are just too much to overcome. With Steven Adams out and JJJ questionable their frontcourt is in shambles.
The Grizz are already allowing the 3rd most points to opposing centers at full strength, so Embiid has to be licking his chops. Philly has struggled against Memphis historically, but the 6ers are rolling and the Grizz are severely undermanned.
Our first official play will be on the 76ers, laying the three points with plenty of confidence. One weakness in the 76ers defense has is guarding opposing shooting guards. They allow the 7th most points and 2nd most rebounds to this position. Desmond Bane has emerged as one of the most important players on the Grizz and could be relied on even more as injuries stack up. Banes Pts+Rebs+Asts line is set at 25.5, a number he’s cleared in 4 of his last 7 games. One of the games he fell short was due to only playing 18 minutes in a 73 point blowout win. We will go over 25.5 PRA for Desmond Bane. Embiid’s point total is set at 25.5, a figure he’s eclipsed in 4 of his last 5 games since working his way back into form. We touched on how vulnerable the Grizz are against centers and that’s when they are at full strength. We will add a 2nd player prop on Joel Embiid over 25.5 points.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Philadelphia 76ers Analysis from The GoldSheet
The Grizzlies have been going at foes like they were salmon barbequed with a honey glaze (bears are quite partial to salmon and honey) lately, winning seven of their last eight straight-up, and doing it with vigor, leading the league in net rating and defensive efficiency while playing without star PG Ja Morant. Memphis was just getting ready to get Morant back into action after he was down for the past two weeks with a knee sprain when he was put into the health and safety protocol and will miss at least another ten days. Apparently not a problem for HC Taylor Jenkins and the Griz! Meanwhile, the Sixers have won four of their last five including a win over powerful Golden State, but that win might take the edge off the Philly appetite.
