Milwaukee Bucks vs Boston Celtics Analysis
The Celtics are coming off a win on Wednesday against a Cavaliers team missing a lot of players, and somehow Boston has been able to avoid the huge roster losses that have affected other teams. They will be hosting the Milwaukee Bucks who have won two straight against Houston and Dallas, and were playing without Giannis and Portis in those games, but Giannis has now cleared protocols and it appears he will play in this matchup. The Bucks are now favored by seven points with a total of 221, so let’s unwrap this game and put a bow on it.
Jaylen Brown has returned and it’s really taken a lot of the pressure off Tatum which was needed. Tatum went eight games in a row as their leading scorer, but now they’ve gone three straight games without him being the leading scorer and they won two out of those three.
The Celtics have been middle of the road covering spreads and with their totals, so nothing sticks out with the trends there, but these two teams played two weeks ago with Boston winning 117-103 with the Big 3 from Milwaukee playing in that game. Tatum had a season high of 42 in that game, and it must be noted that was a back to back for Milwaukee.
The Bucks have been playing shorthanded for big chunks of the season, but when they have Holiday, Middleton and Giannis they are an elite team, no question. It’s just been a matter of getting them all together. They are 11-2 straight up when the Big 3 plays together this season, but have lost their last two games in that scenario however one of those losses was a back to back situation and the other was against Miami where the Heat tied a franchise record for made threes.
I think these lines are pretty close to where I would set them, so if I have to make a play in this game it will be on the over. The Bucks are struggling this year with guards so Brown should succeed and open up opportunities for others, and Giannis coming back should provide some excitement for the Bucks offense.

Boston, which has been alternating wins and losses for almost 2 weeks, is coming off a 10-point win over a sizzling but Covid-compromised Cleveland bunch on Wednesday. However, the Celtics always seem to get ready to play when they see Milwaukee, covering 7 of the last 8 meetings with the Bucks, with 6 of the last 7 meetings have gone over. That Boston run includes win-and-covers in both prior meetings with Milwaukee, both of which were played at the TD Garden in Beantown.
Celtic F Jayson Tatum has led his team against the Bucks, scoring 34.5 ppg and pulling down 8 rpg in first 2 meetings and G Dennis Schroder scored 38 against Milwaukee in the first meeting this season. Both teams have been touched by Covid, with Milwaukee playing without Giannis Antetokounmpo the last 10 days, so check status for this one.
With Josh Richardson, and Al Horford out with Covid, Boston signed Joe Johnson to a 10-day emergency contract, clearly Boston is worried about depth. The Bucks have regained services of F Khris Middleton recently and he is on fire (15 of 31 FGs first 2 games back; 24.5 ppg in those), while Boogie Cousins (17.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg last 3 games) flashing form of 4-5 years ago.
