Milwaukee Bucks vs Cleveland Cavaliers Analysis
The Cleveland Cavaliers travel to Fiserv Forum for an Eastern Conference tilt with the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks are coming off a 118-113 home loss to the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night. The Cavs were also in action on Wednesday evening as they beat the Portland Trailblazers 114-96.
This will be the second of four meetings between these teams as Milwaukee prevailed 113-98 at home a little over a week ago on November 16th. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 PM EST/5:00 PST.
Bucks Bounce Back?
The Milwaukee Bucks will be looking for a bounce back as their record dipped to 12-5 after losing to the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday. Milwaukee currently sits at 2nd place in the Eastern Conference, 2.5 games behind the Boston Celtics.
Giannis Antetokounmpo led all scorers in the game against Portland with 36 points while adding 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Brook Lopez chipped in with 20 points while Jrue Holiday added a 14 point 11 assist double-double.
Antetokounmpo continues to lead his team in points with 30.5 a game and rebounds with 11.6 a game. However he has also heavily contributed to the leagues 29th ranked team free throw percentage of 71.3%.
Defense has been the Bucks calling card as they rank 4th with only 107.5 points allowed per game on 44.8% shooting from the floor. They struggle on the perimeter as they have the 17th highest three-point percentage but own the boards with a league high 49.4 rebounds a game.
They are middle of the pack in scoring, ranking 16th with 111.6 points per game. Khris Middleton has already been ruled out as he get closer to making his season debut after a wrist injury. Jrue Holiday is probable while Pat Connaughton is questionable, both dealing with non-covid related illness.
Cavalier Contenders
The Cleveland Cavaliers improved to 12-6 on the season after beating the Portland Trailblazers on Wednesday. They currently sit neck-and-neck with Milwaukee at 3rd place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 34 points on 11 of 18 from the field. Darius Garland and Jared Allen both had 24 point double-doubles, Garland with 12 assists and Allen with 13 rebounds.
The Cavs currently rank 8th in points scored with 115.5 points a game on 48.7% shooting. “Spida” Mitchell paces the team in scoring with 30.1 points a game on 50.5% from the floor.
They have taken advantage of opportunities from the charity stripe, ranking 8th with 80.1% from the line. Cleveland is stellar on defense as they rank 5th with only 107.6 per game.
Like the Bucks, they struggle on the perimeter as they allow opponents to shoot 36.1% from beyond the arc, the 19th highest free throw percentage allowed in the league. Kevin Love (thumb) and Caris LeVert (ankle) are both listed as questionable for this contest.
Milwaukee Bucks vs Cleveland Cavaliers Player Prop Prediction
The Milwaukee Bucks are 3.5 point home favorites with a total set at 215.5. This is a great matchup between what should be two of the top contenders for the Eastern Conference throughout the season.
We mentioned how both teams struggle to defend the perimeter while dominating the paint defensively. This should lead to even more scoring opportunities for Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland while the Cavs big are clogged up in the paint.
The Bucks allow the least assists to opposing point guards in the league while ranking 6th overall in point guard defense. Garland has an assist total of 8.5, a number he has fallen short of in 8 of 12 games this season.
Garland did clear this line with 9 & 12 assists in his last two games against weaker defenses in Portland and Atlanta. Not to mention Mitchell only recorded one assist against Portland while he averages 5.7 a game on the season.
Tonight’s total is only 215.5 so scoring and assist opportunities should be at a premium. Garland landed on 8 assists against Milwaukee on November 16th and has fallen short of 9 assists in four straight games against the Bucks.
Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobleys scoring chances should be neutralized by Antetokounmpo, Bobby Portis and Brook Lopez. Garland averages 13.8 assist opportunities per game, so he will need to convert a high percentage against a superior defense to get to 9.
Watch for Garland to take more shots on the vulnerable Bucks perimeter defense thus lessening his assist numbers and falling short of this total.
