NBA Skills Challenge Best Bets: Check the Format

Teams of three will go through three rounds: Relay, Passing and Shooting. I really hope we have a tie because the tie breaker is who can make a half court shot in the quickest amount of time!!!

Relay Round

All three players take turns making an outlet pass at a target that’s moving, a pylon dribble obstacle, shot attempt from in the lane, a 3 point shot and then dribble to the other end and make a basket. Which ever team does it the fastest wins 100 points.

Passing Round

All three players take turns making a 20 foot pass to a moving target, a 25 foot pass to a moving target and a 35 foot pass to a moving target. Winner gets 100 points.

Shooting Round

All three players take turns at a 10 foot shot, a shot from the elbow, a top of the key three pointer, a left corner three pointer, and a 30 foot three pointer. Team with the highest score gets 200 points.

Tie Breaker

Teams try to make a half court shot, and whoever makes the first one in the fastest time wins.

NBA Skills Challenge Prediction & Best Bets

I have to look very hard at the shooting round as that’s where 200 points are up for grabs. If a team wins that round, and the other teams split the other rounds, the team that won the shooting round wins. If the team wins the shooting round and one other round that team wins.

Basically, whoever wins the shooting round is guaranteed to make it to the tie breaker at worst. That’s why I like All-Stars at +160.

The combo of Barnes, Maxey and Young will just move quicker than the other teams as Wembanyama isn’t quick on his feet, and that will slow them down, and Banchero isn’t a great three point shooter as he only makes 1.5 per game.

Haliburton should be great in the shooting round, but Mathurin is not a good three point shooter making 1.2 per game and only attempting 3.4 per game. Scottie Barnes is the weakest three point shooter on All-Stars, but if I’m handicapping the shooting round I have All-Stars as a -150 favorite, and if they get those 200 points they will be sitting pretty.
