New Orleans Pelicans vs Philadelphia 76ers Betting Analysis
The Philadelphia 76ers travel to the Bayou for an interconference clash with the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night. The Pelicans won their fourth straight game 119-118 at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The 76ers watched an eight game winning streak fall by the wayside in a 116-111 loss at home to the Washington Wizards.
This is the first of two regular season meetings as they bounce right back and play each other thus coming Monday in Philadelphia. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 PM EST/5:30 PST from the Smoothie King Center.
Sixers Seek Bounce Back Game
The Philadelphia 76ers record dipped to 20-13 on the season after having an eight game winning streak snapped on Tuesday in Washington. The difference in the game was three-point shooting as Washington went 11-33 for 33.3% while Philadelphia went only 6-31 for 19.4%.
Ironically both teams went 27-31 from the free throw line while collecting 39 rebounds. Joel Embiid was the games leading scorer with 48 points to along with 10 rebounds.
James Harden also had a double-double with 26 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. Philadelphia ranks 21st in scoring with 111.7 points a game on 47.5% from the field.
Defensive scoring has been the Sixers calling card as they rank #2 with only 108 points allowed per game. They struggle on the get boards ranking 2nd to last with only 40.4 rebounds a game. Tyrese Maxey has been out since mid-November but is now listed as probable to return on Friday night.
Pelicans Flock For Fourth Straight Win
The New Orleans Pelicans improved to 22-12 on the season after edging out the Timberwolves for their fourth straight victory on Wednesday.
The did a good job cleaning the glass with a 43-35 rebounding advantage while also outshooting Minnesota from downtown. Zion Williamson led all scorers with 43 points on 14-21 from the field and 14-19 from the charity stripe.
Jonas Valanciunas had a 12 point, 11 rebound double-double while Trey Murphy III and CJ McCollum added 21 & 20 points respectively. New Orleans has been lights out offensively, sitting at 3rd with 117.8 points a game on 48.3% from the floor.
They are slightly above average in defensive scoring with 112.6 points allowed per game while sitting at 6th in rebounding with 45.4 per game. Brandon Ingram has already been ruled out for this contest with a toe injury while Larry Nance Jr (neck) and Herbert Jones (conditioning) are both questionable.
New Orleans Pelicans vs Philadelphia 76ers Player Prop Prediction
This game is a virtual pick’em with the Philadelphia 76ers being favored by 1 point with a total of 229. Both teams are contenders who could face each other in the NBA Finals if things broke the right way.
The Sixers could get back to full strength if Tyrese Maxey returns to action while the Pels still deal with life without Brandon Ingram and company.
If Maxey returns it will weaken the Philadelphia defense and give better looks to players like CJ McCollum. Zion Williamson will have less room to operate in the paint with Joel Embiid and PJ Tucker playing defense.
McCollum has actually thrived as a scoring with Zion on the court with 29, 14, 28, 27, 20 & 31 points, clearing his point total of 20.5 in four of six games while landing on 20 exactly once. McCollum will be the #2 scoring option on this team, making 20.5 seem like an awfully low total.
