New Orleans Pelicans vs Phoenix Suns Analysis

The Phoenix Suns travel to New Orleans for a showdown with the Pelicans on NBA TV’s featured game on the night. Both teams are coming off massive wins in their previous games. The Pels torched the Rockets 130-105 at home on Sunday night. Meanwhile the Suns embarrassed the Lakers at home 140-111.

The Suns have won two of the three head-to-head matchups 112-100 at home and 123-110 in New Orleans. The Pels snuck out a 117-102 victory in Phoenix late last month.

Pelicans Break Losing Streak

The New Orleans Pelicans were up against it, on a four-game losing streak and playing without their top two players. Then the Houston Rockets came to town and the Pels picked up a 25 point victory.

While scoring wasn’t an issue, they did it with defense as they forced 24 turnovers. Jonas Valanciunas took on the leadership role and scored 32 points while snagging 10 rebounds. Jaxson Hayes also chipped in with 21 points.

Brandon Ingram remains out with a hamstring injury, while CJ McCollum is questionable to return from health and safety protocol list.

The Pels score only 108 points a game ranking them 22nd, while ranking 14th with 109.8 points allowed per game to their opposition.

Suns Scorch the Lakers

The Phoenix Suns displayed their best offensive performance of the season as they scored a season-high 140 points Sunday night against the Lakers. The Suns ended the first quarter with a 48-22 lead and never looked back.

The Suns dominated on both sides of the ball, shooting 56.9% from the field while forcing 19 turnovers. Devin Booker led the way with 30 points and 10 assists, while DeAndre scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Monty Williams told reporters that Ayton specifically asked him to trust that he could guard Lebron James and it payed dividends.

The Suns continue to play without Chris Paul who remains out with a right thumb fracture and Cameron Johnson who has a quadriceps issue.

The Suns have the No. 5-ranked offense that scores 114 points a game, while allowing 106 points a game and ranking six the league.

New Orleans Pelicans vs Phoenix Suns Prediction

The Phoenix Suns enter this game as 4.5-point road favorites with a total of 231 points. Both teams are coming off impressive victories against inferior opponents. The Pels beat the worst team in the league and are now up against the best.

While Jonas Valanciunas can provide some resistance for DeAndre Ayton, the Suns have a far superior backcourt, especially if CJ Mccollum is a no go. The Suns want to stack wins as quick as possible to secure the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. The Suns come out like gangbusters so they can cruise to victory and rest late in the game.

I’m going roll with the Suns -3 in the first half, however I don’t see a problem with a full game play at -4.5 either.

Official Play: Phoenix Suns -3 First Half
