New York Knicks vs Detroit Pistons Analysis

The Detroit Pistons (5-24, 15th in NBA – East) are scheduled to be in Midtown Manhattan on Tuesday night against the New York Knicks (13-17, 12th in NBA – East) at Madison Square Garden. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 pm ET, with the visiting Pistons looking to put an end to their seven-game road stink against a Knickerbockers squad that is just 8-14 vs. Eastern Conference foes. The Knicks have little to no identity as a whole, unlike last season. The Pistons are a porous 1-9 straight up in their previous ten events and are averaging a mere 103.7 points per game.

The DraftKing Sportsbook has positioned the hometown Knicks as 7.5-point favorites over the visiting Pistons. New York frontcourt All-Star Julius Randle averages 19.6 points per game, while Knicks shooting forward Evan Fournier has seen an uptick in scoring this month, averaging 13 points across the past ten games for New York. Forward Jerami Grant accounts for 20.1 points for the Pistons when he is active on game night. The No. 1 overall pick in this summer’s draft, shooting guard Cade Cunningham, is beginning to find his rhythm averaging 19.5 points in December for Detroit.

The Knicks lost for the eighth time in 10 games Saturday, when they overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to carry a two-point lead into the fourth quarter before falling to the host Celtics 114-107. Both teams head into the game in poor form. The Knicks have lost five of their last six. The Pistons earned a 100-90 win over the Miami Heat on Sunday night but came into the home tilt, having lost 14 consecutive games.

Detroit Pistons

  • The Pistons have the worst record in the NBA at 5-24.
  • Detroit has lost seven straight on the road.
  • Jerami Grant averages 20.1 points for the Pistons while rookie Cade Cunningham is finding his Association footing, scoring an average of 20 points per event in Detroit’s last ten affairs.
  • Pistons have been competitive in their last six games despite the team’s straight-up record of 1-5. Detroit is 4-3 ATS in those previous seven contests.
  • Detroit is surrendering 109.4 points per game while being outscored by an average of 9.0 points per game.

New York Knicks

  • Knicks are averaging over 110 points per game across the last seven games and are surrendering 108.4.
  • Randle is averaging a near double-double adding 9.7 rebounds to his team-leading 20 points a game.
  • Fournier’s 32 points in the loss to the Celtics tied the season-high he set against the Celtics in the season opener on Oct. 20.

New York Knicks vs Detroit Pistons Prediction

Just casually stating that the Knicks are playing shorthanded with the recent additions of Immanuel Quickley and Derrick Rose joining RJ Barrett on the injury report under the health and safety protocols would be understating New York’s roster situation.

The young Pistons recent losing streak found half of those losses by 10-points or fewer. While Detroit will be without leading scorer Jerami Grant the recent return of Cory Joseph, Killian Hayes, and Hamidou Diallo fill his scoring void.

The Pistons don’t lose significant metrics without Grant on the floor. Detroit is outscored by 12.2 points per 100 possessions when Grant is active, and when Grant isn’t a part of the game night lineup, the Pistons score 11.5 points less than their opponent.

The WagerTalk pick to click tonight at Madison Square Garden is a play on the visiting Pistons plus the points.

New York Knicks vs Detroit Pistons Preview from GoldSheet

New York has dominated Detroit recently, winning and covering 5 straight against the Pistons. However, don’t quite trust a Knick team laying this many points at home. New York is just 3-11 vs. the number last 14 opportunities as Madison Square Garden chalk of 8 points or more. Now, granted Detroit F Jerami Grant (20 ppg) is expected to miss his 5th straight game with a thumb injury, but New York isn’t in the best shape either, with RJ Barrett (15 ppg) and Immanuel Quickley out on Covid protocol while Derrick Rose iffy with a sore ankle poses some issues for Knick HC Tom Thibodeau to deal with. New York is just 2-8 SU and against the points in latest downturn, in which the team has the third-worst defense in the NBA (so much for Thibs being a defensive guru. Play Detroit.
