New York Knicks vs Miami Heat Analysis
Prior to the All-Star break, the New York Knicks lost three straight games in downright embarrassing fashion. The Knicks lost to the lowly Trail Blazers and blew big leads to the Thunder and Nets.
On the other hand, the Miami Heat – the number one team in the Eastern Conference – went 6-4 in their last ten games.
New York Blame Game
The Knicks are playing some of the worst basketball of the season and the annual blame game and internal questioning have begun in New York. Why is head coach Tom Thibbidou so reluctant to play the Knicks’ youth? Why did this team not shop around their veterans at the deadline? Did the Knicks overcommit to Julius Randle?
The reality of the situation is the Knicks are not a good basketball team. The Knicks are 27th in the league in points, 29th in assists, and 29th in two-point field goal percentage. For the questions about who should and shouldn’t be getting minutes for the Knicks, the answer seems pretty obvious. No one on this team, besides RJ Barrett, should be entitled to any playing time.
Heat Rise to the Top
The Miami Heat are the number one seed in the Eastern Conference and are playing great basketball. In the first meeting between these two teams, the Heat covered the spread and won handily. The Heat are 24-12 in Eastern Conference play and Miami is seventh in the Eastern Conference scoring 108.9 points per game and is shooting 46.0% from the field.
New York Knicks vs Miami Heat Prediction
This season has been a rollercoaster for the Knicks. Just when it seems like the Knicks can get it together and fight for the playoffs, they fall off completely. On the other hand, when the Knicks need to be competitive, they fight, they just don’t always come out as winners.
I lean toward the Knicks +5.5 in this contest. Madison Square Garden will be electric on Friday evening and the Knicks should come out inspired since their season depends on it. The Heat are certainly the better team and they play well on the road, but the Knicks need this game badly.

From GoldSheet: How motivated are the Knicks to finish this season? In the 11 games prior to the All-Star break, the Knicks ranked 25th in defensive efficiency, giving up just shy of 116 points per 100 opponents’ possessions. Kemba Walker has been shut down for the season. Derrick Rose is doubtful (coming back from ankle surgery). RJ Barrett is doubtful (ankle sprain). Nerlens Noel is questionable with a sore foot.
At DraftKings, Jimmy Butler’s point total has opened at 20.5.
