Orlando Magic vs Golden State Warriors Analysis

The Orlando Magic host the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night in a interconference showdown. The Warriors are coming off a 116-109 loss on the road against the Miami Heat. The Magic also dropped their most recent outing in a 116-108 road loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

These teams will meet for the second and final time on January 7th in a season series they split last season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM EST/4:00 PST from the Amway Center in Orlando.

Not a Magical Start

The Orlando Magic went 0-2 on their short road trip as they let on slip away 116-108 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Wendell Carter Jr led his team in scoring with a 30 point 12 rebound double-double.

Franz Wagner chipped in with 20 points and Bol Bol had a double-double of his own with 13 points 12 rebounds. Orlando lost the game despite dominating the boards 49-36. They do rank 7th in the league with 46 rebounds per contest.

The Magic fell to 1-7 on the season, placing themselves at the bottom of the Southwest division. Offensively this team has struggled as they rank 28th with only 105.9 while ranking 28th in assists. The Magic are 12th in the league scoring defense allowing 111 points a game.

Paolo Banchero paces the team in scoring with 21.8 points per game while also grabbing 7.6 rebounds a night. Cole Anthony, Johnathan Isaac, Gary Harris and Markelle Fultz all remain out with various injuries.

Curry Drops Triple Double

The Golden State Warriors are currently 0-3 on a five game road trip after losing 116-109 in South Beach against the Miami Heat. Steph Curry put up a rare triple double while leading his team in all three categories with 23 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists.

Andrew Wiggins added 21 points , while Klay Thompson scored 19 as the only other Warrior to score double digits. With two minutes remaining the score was tied but the Heat scored the games final 7 points to take the victory.

The Warriors record dropped to 3-5 on the season as they sit 3.5 games behind the Phoenix Suns in the Pacific division. Steph Curry leads the team with 30 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists a game.

The Golden State defense has been a train wreck as they rank 29th with 121.1 points allowed per game. On offense they rank 9th with 117.5 points a game. No surprise, the Warriors are 5th in the league in three-pointers per game with 14.5 per night.

Andre Iguodala could return from a hip issue tonight while Donte DiVincenzo will miss the remainder of trip with a hamstring injury.

Orlando Magic vs Golden State Warriors Prop Prediction

The Golden State Warriors are 9.5 point road favorites with a total of 226. Both these teams are really struggling especially away from home recently.

The Magic are going to have a tremendous advantage in the paint between Carter Jr, Bol & Bamba as the Warriors have been eaten alive by opposing centers. Golden State counts on Curry, Wiggins & Poole to do the bulk of their scoring.

I’m thinking the best way to attack this one is an under on Kevon Looneys points + rebounds + assists. His total sits at 16.5 and he has fallen short in 5 of 8 games.

His high on the year is only 23. Looney will have his hands full fighting for rebounds and the athleticism of the Magic bigs will pull him from the block, thus leading to less rebounding and scoring chances.

He never shoots a three & barely gets to the charity stripe. He also averages only 23 minutes a game. This is a bad matchup for Looney and he landed on 10 & 13 PRA in two meetings with the Magic last season.
