Orlando Magic vs Philadelphia 76ers Analysis

Orlando heads to Philadelphia for the 2nd time this season as the Magic take on the 76ers. Philadelphia has won both the previous match-ups but the two teams split the match-ups against the spread, with each team taking the win against the spread on the road. Philadelphia comes into this game HOT, they have won nine games out of the last 11 games, which is more wins as Orlando has on the entire season. Although, against the spread, a team that is an underdog of 10+ points, after losing eight out of their last ten games (Orlando) against a team that has won eight of the last ten games (Philadelphia) is 271-187 against the spread, covering just over 59% of the time.

Orlando Not Making Magic

While the trend may favor Orlando in certain situations, they are definitely struggling and their star in Wendall Carter Jr is questionable for tonight’s game in Philadelphia. Orlando is 8-37 on the year, sitting in last place in the East, but they have covered 20 out of 45 games against the spread. They have been outscored by almost nine PPG on the season, but have been outscored by under seven on the road (6-21 record). In the last two weeks, Orlando has won just one game out of the seven that they played, but these games have been closer, holding opponents to 106 PPG against the 100 that they are putting up on average.

Orlando has covered every game they have played on the road against Atlantic Division opponents this year, even though they haven’t been able to win all the match-ups straight up, they are actually outscoring those opponents 106.1 – 105.3. Offense has been the struggle for the Magic, especially as of late, Orlando has shot < 45% in seven out of the last nine games they have played. Yet, the defense has been rather impressive, holding six of their last eight opponents to 43.7% shooting or less.

Sixers Finding Their Swagger

Philadelphia had a rough outing on Monday, losing to Washington but a score of 98 – 117 at Washington. Regardless, Philadelphia finds themselves in 6th place in the East and just 2.5 games out of 1st place. Philadelphia is 25-18 on the year (21-21 against the spread), including a 9-9 record on their home court. Even though they had that rough game against Washington on Monday, they are 9-2 in the last 11 games (including a 8-3 record against the spread), and in those 11 games, Philadelphia has posted 112.4 PPG on average (scoring 109 points or more in all 9 wins), and they are holding opponents to under 104 PPG in that span. Philadelphia is 21-12 outside the Atlantic Division, but they are just 10-7 off a loss this season. They have taken six of the eight match-ups against Orlando in the last three years, and they look to extend that run.

Orlando Magic vs Philadelphia 76ers Prediction

Orlando is 4-15 this season as a double digit underdog, while Philadelphia has won four out of five games as a double digit favorite. Offense has been the weakness for Orlando this season, and in just the last five games, Philadelphia has held teams to 102 PPG.

Opinion: Leaning towards Philadelphia minus the points. Philly has been as hot as it gets and Orlando’s main player in the paint isn’t at 100%. 12 points is a big spread, but these may be the ideal teams to cover that large spread.

Orlando Magic vs Philadelphia 76ers Preview from GoldSheet

Unsurprisingly, Philadelphia has held much the upper hand in this series, winning 6 in a row SU (5-1 vs. the points) since just before Orlando began selling its assets for a rebuild. This season Orlando dropped both against the Sixers by scores of 116-106 Jan. 5 and 101-96 on Nov. 29, with the visitor covering each of those. Sixer C Embiid (24 ppg, 9 rpg vs. Orlando), G Seth Curry (22 ppg, 69% FGs) and PF Tobias Harris (20 ppg) have per usual been the big guns against the Magic, while Orlando F Franz Wagner (21 ppg) had a couple of good games, while Cole Anthony scored 26 with seven assists in his only appearance. Big question is the condition of Magic C Mo Bamba, who returned from a two game absence vs. Dallas and Portland, but turned an ankle and left the game, but returned to finish. Bamba can be a key facing Embiid, and if he’s healthy have to take a look at the Sixers’ 7-15 spread mark laying double digits at the Wells Fargo Center (1-3 this year). Magic covered four of last five as double digit road dog.
