Pacers vs Cavaliers Analysis
Familiar foes square off on Friday night when the Cleveland Cavaliers travel to Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana for a clash with the Pacers.
The Pacers were annihilated by the Hawks on Tuesday night in Atlanta by a final score of 133-112. On Wednesday night, the Cavs handled their business at home with a 105-92 triumph over the San Antonio Spurs.
The Cavaliers prevailed at home on Sunday night against the Pacers 98-85, as they did on January 2nd 108-104. These teams also completed a trade earlier this week. Caris LeVert was the main piece heading to Cleveland, draft picks were swapped and the Pacers took on Ricky Rubio’s expiring contract.
This will be the third head-to-head matchup, with the 4th and final matchup scheduled for March 8th in Indiana.
LeVert Returns to Indiana
Caris LeVert heads back to Indiana to face his former team after only one game with the new look Cavs. LeVert benefits from leaving an absolute train wreck behind and jumping on a playoff contender.
The Cavs are in the thick of things in the East, with a 34-21 record they sit at 3rd place, only 1.5 games behind the first place Miami Heat. In his first game as a Cavalier, LeVert scored 11 points on 4 for 11 from the field in 28 minutes off the bench.
Darius Garland led the way to victory with 27 points on 12 for 15 shooting. Lauri Markkanen is the only player on the injury report, he is listed as out with an ankle injury. The Cavaliers have a below average offense that ranks 23rd with only 106.5 points a game.
Where they get the job done is defensively, as they rank #1 in scoring defense with only 101.9 allowed pee game.
Haliburton and Hield Join Rebuild
LeVert wasn’t the only Pacer traded as Domantas Sabonis was sent to Sacramento with Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield being the big names they received in return.
Haliburton and Hield have yet to see action with the Pacers, meaning this should be their first games in Indiana. The Pacers are in a total rebuild as they sit at 19-37 on the season. Malcolm Brogdon is questionable for Friday night’s contest, while Myles Turner remains out with a foot injury.
Chris Duarte led the team in scoring with 25 points in their most recent loss to the Atlanta Hawks. The Pacers are 17th in scoring with 108.8 points a game and 22nd in defense with 111.3 points allowed to their opponents.
Pacers vs Cavaliers Prediction
The Cleveland Cavaliers are 7.5 favorites with a total of 215. This game is going to be a real uphill battle for the Pacers. The Cavs defense is one the best in the league and they held Indiana to 85 points just 5 days ago.
While Haliburton and Hield join the team, they will be on minutes restrictions, limiting their production. Recently teams like the Indiana Pacers are getting run off the floor.
This spread has been covered in five of the last six Pacer losses and three of the last five Cavalier wins. It’s a large spread that Cavs should be able to cover with their smothering defense.
Prediction: Cavaliers -7

Pacers vs Cavaliers Preview from GoldSheet
Well this will be an interesting lineup sheet for HC Rick Carlisle to turn in tonight, with new acquisitions Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield fresh off the plane from Sacramento, Malcolm Brogdon upgraded to questionable after missing the last 11 games and Oshae Brissett perhaps moving into the frontline position vacated by Domantas Sabonis being traded to Sacramento.
Return to action of C Isaiah Jackson would help, but he’s iffy with an ankle sprain that’s cost him the last four games.
Absolutely must look at Cleveland, the league’s second-best pointspread team at 33-20-2 on the season, and BJ Bickerstaff’s club has been getting excellent play from vet Kevin Love (18 ppg, 10 rpg last four games) and has the power on the frontline with Love, rookie PF Evan Mobley and C Jarrett Allen to work the Pacers over inside.
Additionally, the Cavs regained the services of PG Darius Garland, who returned from missing the last 4 games with a 27-point game against San Antonio on Wednesday.Play Cleveland.
