Pelicans vs Hornets Analysis
The Charlotte Hornets travel to New Orleans to face the Pelicans in an cross-conference showdown between two teams trying to remain in the playoff picture. The Pelicans fell to 27-39 after a 108-102 home loss against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. The 32-35 Hornets are also coming off a 115-101 loss at home to the Boston Celtics.
This will be the first of two head-to-head matchups between these squads who will meet again in about a week and a half.
Wounded Pelicans Look to Start a New Streak
The New Orleans Pelicans came out of the All-Star break like gangbusters crushing the Sacramento Kings and Utah Jazz. Since then they have dropped three straight games and now will be without both Brandon Ingram and CJ Mccollum.
CJ led the team with 32 points and 8 assists in their latest loss against the Orlando Magic. Mccollum has popped up on the leagues health and safety protocol list and will miss tonight’s game along with Brandon Ingram who is dealing with a hamstring strain. This will be the third straight game that Ingram has missed.
The Pels will need a full team effort as Ingram and Mccollum are their top two players. New Orleans ranks 22nd in scoring with 107 points a game and 14th in scoring defense with 109 points a game allowed to their rivals.
Hornets Need to Stop the Bleeding
The Charlotte Hornets have been in rough shape for some time now, losing 13 of their last 17 games. Their record fell to 32-35 in their latest loss to the Boston Celtics Miles Bridges and PJ Washington led the team in scoring with 17 points each.
Charlotte needs to start stacking some victories to avoid missing the post-season altogether as they are only 1.5 games ahead of 11th place. The Hornets are relatively injury free with only Jalen McDaniels and James Bouknight on the injury report.
Defense has been the Hornets downfall, they allow 114.9 points a game ranking 28th in the NBA. They do rank highly in scoring at 4th with over 114 points scored per game.
Pelicans vs Hornets Prediction
Both teams desperately need this victory to snap losing streaks. The Hornets’ horrendous defense and poor form make them tough to back. However they have been a bit better on the road as they are 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six games. It’s going to be tough for the Pels to generate offense without McCollum and Ingram. I’m going to back the Hornets to outscore them and cover this short spread on the road.
Official Play: Charlotte Hornets -2.5
