Philadelphia 76ers vs Denver Nuggets Analysis
The Nuggets travel to Philly to take on the 76ers in a game that features Jokic vs. Embiid…two of the best players in the NBA and two favorites to be MVP. The books expect this to be close as the 76ers are -2.5 favorites with the total settling in at 220.5. These are two teams who have looked shaky the last couple games, so we’ll see what best bet we find in this matchup.
Too Much Jokic?
Jokic is like ice cream…can you ever have too much? Well…yeah!!! Jokic is a monster, we all know this, but he’s led his team in points, rebounds and assists…all three categories…in five straight games. In their loss to Golden State on Thursday he had nine assists, and nobody else on the team had more than two.
The Nuggets don’t feel like a well rounded team, and it’s showing as they are 1-4 against the spread their last five games.
The good news for Denver is that last time they played Philadelphia, Jokic had 30 points and ten rebounds. The bad news is that they scored 89 points and lost by 14.
There are some red flags with this team as they are 10-3 straight up the last 13, but three wins are against Sacramento, and three others are against Houston, Orlando, Portland, and add to that two wins against shorthanded Golden State. They’ve lost two straight to Toronto and Golden State by 12 and 11 points, so I don’t have a lot of confidence in them as a team right now.
Shell-Shocked Sixers
Philadelphia is in a tough spot right now as they got embarrassed against Brooklyn, and then needed overtime to beat Orlando by only two and have to turn around and play Denver tonight followed by Cleveland, Dallas, Toronto and Miami.
Their confidence was clearly shook with the Brooklyn beatdown, and they have a lot of games they can lose in the short-term future.
What’s been glaring for them recently is the lack of depth. In an overtime game against the Magic their bench gave them 19 points, 16 coming from Niang. Thybulle pitched in zero points and five fouls and Maxey has faded recently, but some glimmers of hope are that the free throws came back as they went 32-for-37 last night.
It’s tough to look at some long term stats with this team because the Brooklyn game changed things, and confidence won’t show up in the stat sheet.
Philadelphia 76ers vs Denver Nuggets Prediction
*ALERT-The last back to back situation for Philly, they pulled Harden from the lineup in the afternoon, so DO NOT bet this game until later today.
Philadelphia started off slow against Orlando as they appeared shaky only scoring 47 in the first half, but they seemed to settle in as the game went on scoring 57 in the second half to force overtime. Denver has given up 113 and 127 the last two games, so I’ll take the 76ers’ team total over 110.5 points as long as Harden and company play.
Denver has been plummeting in defensive efficiency as they were 11th since Feb.1, but are now 18th since March 1. If there are last second scratches from the 76ers lay off, but if all systems are a go take them over.
