Philadelphia 76ers vs Miami Heat Analysis
The Miami Heat head to Philadelphia to meet the 76ers in a showdown between two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
The 76ers fell to 43-26 after suffering a 93-88 home loss against the Toronto Raptors last night. The Heat improved to 47-24 with a 120-108 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder at home on Saturday night.
Miami has won two of the three head-to-head meetings between these squads including a 99-82 triumph at home in their most recent meeting earlier this month.
Heat Control Their Own Destiny
The Miami Heat sit at first place in the Eastern Conference three games up on the Milwaukee Bucks with 11 games left on their schedule.
Their latest victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder was their fourth win in their last five games, giving them a 7-3 record over the course of their last 10 games. Tyler Herro led the way for Miami with 26 points, 7 rebounds and four assists.
Bam Adebayo finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds while Duncan Robinson added 19 points of his own. Jimmy Butler missed that game and is once again questionable with an ankle injury.
Caleb Martin is also questionable while Gabe Vincent and Victor Oladipo are both listed as out for this contest.
The Heat have an elite defense that rank 4th with only 104.8 points allowed to their rivals. They rank 17th in scoring with 109.5 points per game.
76ers Look to Bounce Back Before Heading West
The Philadelphia 76ers look to end a three game home stand 2-1 after losing at home to the Toronto Raptors yesterday. They were unable to seal the deal despite starting the 4th quarter with a 74-69 lead.
Joel Embiid led the team with 21 points and 13 rebounds on only 6 of 20 shooting. James Harden fell just shy of a triple double with 17 points, 9 boards and 8 assists.
Philadelphia sits at third place in the Eastern Conference just 3.5 games behind tonight’s opponent. The 76ers are 8-3 straight up and 5-5-1 against the spread with Harden on the court.
The 76ers sport a clean injury report, however this is the 2nd game of a back-to-back prior to a West Coast road trip.
After this game the 76ers head west for three games, one against each Los Angeles team and wrapping it up in Phoenix against the Suns. The 76ers rank 22nd with only 108.4 points scored a game and 7th in scoring defense with 106.5 points allowed to their opponents.
Philadelphia 76ers vs Miami Heat Prediction
The Miami Heat are favored by 1.5 points with a total of 215.5. The 76ers can put up points in bunches but the Heat have a huge advantage in defense and rebounding.
The Heat force more turnovers and their aggressiveness on the offensive glass will give them additional scoring opportunities.
Playing the best team in the conference on the second game of a back-to-back could be a perfect spot for Doc Rivers to bench Joel Embiid and/or James Harden. Regardless I will still take my chances on the Miami Heat laying a small spread.
Prediction: Miami Heat -1.5
