Phoenix Suns vs Houston Rockets Analysis

Two teams trending in completely opposite directions. The Suns are 6-0 in their last six games and sit comfortably atop the Western Conference. On the other hand, the Rockets are 1-5 in their last six contests with five-straight losses by 13 points or more. The line is set at Suns -15.5. It is no question that the Suns are the better team, but, will they cover 15.5 points?

Suns Keep on Rolling

The Suns are 6-0 in their last six games and have covered the spread in four out of the six contests. During their win streak, the Suns are averaging 121.4 points per game while only allowing 108.2.

The Suns have played the Rockets twice this season, winning both matchups as well as covering the spread in both games. The Suns are expected to be missing role players Dario Saric, Frank Kaminsky, Landry Shamet, and Cameron Payne.

Rockets’ Failure to Launch

The Rockets have the worst record in the Western Conference, and they may be playing their worst basketball of the season lately. The Rockets are 1-9 in their last ten games and are allowing their opponents to score an average of 122.5 points per game.

Allowing 122.5 is bad enough, but it makes things worse when, over the last ten games, the Rockets only average 107.1 points. Over the last five games, the Rockets are 0-5 against the spread.

Phoenix Suns vs Houston Rockets Prediction

Barring the Suns head coach Monty Williams deciding to rest his teams’ starters tonight, the Suns should have no trouble scoring on the NBA’s worst defensie team. The Rockets, despite their season long struggles, actually rank 19th in points per game, so they are capable of putting the ball in the hoop.

I recommend taking OVER 234 points for this Western Conference showdown.

I expect the Suns to take care of business and blow out the Rockets. The Suns play inspired basketball while the Rockets cannot wait for the All Star break. I anticipate a barrage of buckets in Phoenix tonight.

Phoenix Suns vs Houston Rockets Preview from GoldSheet

In the most-recent skid (five games), Houston isn’t even bothering to play defense most nights, allowing 131 or more on three occasions, and opted to keep Eric Gordon at the recent trade deadline, ostensibly to have a veteran hand around to offer guidance to the young core of the roster (hint…the kids don’t seem to be listening).

Phoenix capable of naming the score here, though our only hesitation is a second of back-to-back scenario after last night vs. the Clips, a situation in which the Suns are “only” 4-3 vs. the line previous this season, and the look-ahead to the break, which has been a distraction to teams in the past.

For what it’s worth, Phoenix looked a bit flat last night when struggling to put away Ty Lue’s bunch, and that 103 points was well below that the Suns have been scoring lately as they had gone “over” in six of their previous seven. But they have won and covered the first two vs. the Rockets, when Devin Booker (26 & 27 points, respectively) led the scoring assault in both games, and unless Monty Williams wants to rest a couple of key cogs, this is not that prohibitive a price for a team that notched blowouts of 24 (vs. Bucks) and 25 (vs. Magic) earlier in this homestand. And if Phoenix is paying attention, it can probably resume the recent “over” streak that fell short last night.
