Phoenix Suns vs Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Analysis
The Oklahoma City Thunder travel to Phoenix, AZ for a Western Conference clash with the Suns on Friday night. The Suns won their last game prior to the break 116-107 at home against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Thunder suffered a heartbreaking 120-119 overtime loss last night in Utah. This is the first of four head-to-head meetings that these teams will pack into the last six weeks of the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 10:00 PM EST/7:00 PST as the nightcap of an ESPN Friday night doubleheader.
Thunder Look To Strike Back
The Oklahoma City Thunder fell to 28-30 on the season after losing to the Jazz last night in overtime. Free throws may have been the difference as Utah shot 23-27 from the charity stripe while OKC went only 21-27.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led his team in scoring with 39 points along with 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Josh Giddey and Lou Dort both recorded double-doubles as Giddey had 18 points and 11 rebounds while Dort had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Thunder currently occupy the 11th seed in the Western Conference, only a half game shy of the play-in tournament. Offense is the Oklahoma City calling card as they rank 4th in scoring with 117.9 points a game on 47% shooting.
They sit at 10th in defensive rating, but only 20th in defensive scoring with 116.3 points allowed per game. Aleksej Pokusevski was spotted doing some light shooting on Monday. Outside of that, Oklahoma City sports a clean injury report, a breath of fresh air nowadays.
Suns Start Home Stretch
The Phoenix Suns record dipped to 32-28 on the season after losing to the Clippers last Thursday. Free throws were the difference maker as Los Angeles went 25-27 92.6% from the charity stripe while Phoenix shot only 12-16 for 75%.
Josh Okogie led the team in scoring with only 24 points on 9-16 from the field. Devin Booker added 19 points and 9 assists while De’Andre Ayton chipped in with 18 points and 6 rebounds.
The Suns currently occupy the 5th seed in the Western Conference, 10 games behind the first place Nuggets. Phoenix ranks 22nd in scoring with only 112.7 points a game on 46.5% from the floor.
Defense has been their strength as they sit at 8th in defensive rating and 5th in defensive scoring with only 111.3 points allowed per game.
Kevin Durant is planning to make his Phoenix debut on March 1st in Charlotte. Landry Shamet has already been ruled out for this contest while Cameron Payne is questionable as both deal with foot injuries.
Phoenix Suns vs Oklahoma City Thunder Expert Player Props
The Phoenix Suns enter this contest as 7 point home favorites with a total set at 231. These teams will become quite familiar with each other as they play four games between now and April 2nd.
Chris Paul was lights out as a facilitator prior to the break but his three-point shooting didn’t follow suit. CP3 has a three-point line set at 1.5 and he hasn’t hit more than one in eight straight games, recording a goose egg in 4 of those 8 games.
Paul has taken three attempts or less in 6 of his last 8 games with five in the other two games. The Thunder rank #1 in overall point guard defense while allowing the 12th least three-pointers.
Paul isn’t known as an outside shooter and could be rusty after the lay-off. Cameron Payne may return to action tonight and that would be a bonus to this play. Regardless, I’m confident with this under based on his recent track record.
