Phoenix Suns vs Washington Wizards Predictions

The 15-14 Washington Wizards will be taking a red-eye out to Phoenix to face the 22-5 Suns at The Footprint Center. The Wizards have lost the first two games of their current 6 game road trip, including a 119-105 loss to the Sacramento Kings just last night. The Suns are back at home after hanging on for a 111-107 overtime win in Portland on Tuesday night. This is the first of two meetings between these squads, as they meet again in early February.

The Phoenix Suns have been dominant thus far this season with only 5 losses in their first 27 games, ranking them the #1 team in the NBA. After missing two games with a non-covid related illness, DeAndre Ayton came back with a monster effort of 28 points and 13 rebounds. However, Phoenix continues to be without the services of superstar Devin Booker, who has missed a handful of games with a hamstring injury.

The Suns are a deep team and while they looked lost against the Clippers without both players, the return of Ayton may be just enough to keep up their winning ways. The Suns rank top ten on both sides of the ball, as they are 8th in offense with 110.8 points scored a game and 7th in the league allowing only 104.8 points per game.

The Washington Wizards have lost 3 in row and 6 of their last 7 games overall. Their only win in the last 7 games was a 119-116 overtime win against the Detroit Pistons. The Wizards will be on the second game of a back-to-back after losing to Sacramento last night. The Wiz are 2-2 straight up in the second game of back-to-backs this season.

Bradley Beal leads the team in points and assists with 22.4 and 5.9 respectively. Kyle Kuzma is the teams leading rebounder with 8.3 boards a game. The Wizards have the 24th offense in the NBA that is scoring only 105.7 points a game, while their defense ranks 17th as it allows 107.6 points per game.

The Phoenix Suns are 9-point home favorites with an over/under set at 213 points. The Suns are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 home games against teams with losing road records. One stat that really stands out, the Wiz have only covered the spread in 4 of their 17 road games this season. The Suns have way more offensive firepower, even without Booker and the Wiz have struggled majorly on the road.

Official Play: Phoenix Suns -9

Phoenix Suns vs Washington Wizards Analysis from The GoldSheet

Washington is coming off a 119-105 loss at Sacramento last night, as the unrested Wizards made just 5 of 24 treys while allowing the Kings to shoot 55%. Wizards were 5-10 vs. the number last season when unrested and dropped 2 of first 3 when unrested on the road this season. The over bettors have cashed tickets in the last 9 meetings in this series.

Washington HC Wes Unseld Jr. has driven off the car into a ditch recently, losing 7 straight pointspread decisions (1-5 SU last 6) and are now 2-10-1 last 13 this season on the road. Phoenix has cooled against the points over the last month, logging a 6-9 pointspread mark since Nov. 15, ranking only 7th in that span in net efficiency rating despite a 13-2 SU mark. Efficiency isn’t everything, and chances are Suns can entice Wizards to turn up the pace.
