Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Lakers Analysis
The Portland Trailblazers will conclude their four game road trip in Los Angeles as they face Lakers at the newly named Crypto.com Arena. The Lakers haven’t played since Sundays 129-121 loss in Atlanta against the Hawks.
Meanwhile the Blazers are coming off a truly pitiful offensive performance where they only managed to score 81 points in a road loss against the Thunder. The home team prevailed in the first two head-to-head matchups between these conference rivals.
The Lakers secured a 139-106 victory on New Years Eve, while the Blazers won 105-90 in early November. They will meet for a 4th and final time in exactly a week, next Wednesday in Portland.
Lakers Look to Snap Losing Streak
The Los Angeles Lakers have lost three straight games dropping their record to 24-27 on the season. They had a chance to to snap the losing streak Sunday in Atlanta. The Lakers led by 10 points entering the 4th quarter, only to be outscored by 18 and ultimately lose the game 129-121.
Malik Monk led the team with 33 points, Anthony Davis wasn’t far behind with 27 points of his own. Lebron James has missed all three games in the current losing streak with a knee injury. James is officially listed as doubtful with little chance of playing against Portland.
Los Angeles has consistently ranked in the top three in terms of pace mostly due to Russell Westbrook. When Anthony Davis is on the floor they do become a little more ball-centric. The Lakers rank 11th in points scored with 111 a game, but only 27th in points allowed with 112.6 to their opponents.
Nowhere To Go But Up
The Portland Trailblazers are coming off a pathetic performance where they lost 98-81 to an Oklahoma City Thunder team without their best player in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
What’s amazing is Portland led by eight points at halftime, only to meltdown while scoring only 34 second half points on 18.7% shooting from beyond the arc. CJ McCollum led the Blazers with 21 points and 7 rebounds in the losing effort.
The Blazers have now lost four of their last five games, including the last two. Damien Lillard, Nassir Little, Cody Zeller and Larry Nance Jr are all out indefinitely, while Jusuf Nurkic and Anfernee Simons are both day-to-day coming into this contest.
The Blazers rank similar to the Lakers in that they rank 26th with 112.4 points per game allowed to their rivals. Their offense is slightly below average with 108.4 points a game, ranking 17th in the NBA.
Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Lakers Prediction
The Los Angeles Lakers are 3.5 point home favorites with a 223.5 over/under. Both teams come into this game with injuries and losing steaks that include blowing a halftime lead in their most recent game.
Both teams cash more overs than unders but aren’t as consistent with their scoring due to injuries. The Lakers have the advantage in many factors including home court and a deeper roster.
Los Angeles also has better man-to-man matchups and have the best player on the court in Anthony Davis. This isn’t the my most confident play today but I will take a shot on the Lakers laying a small spread.
Official Play: Los Angeles Lakers -3.5

Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Lakers Preview from GoldSheet
Los Angeles coming home from their 6-game road trip on a 3-game losing streak hoping to turn things around against a Portland side that’s dropped four of five overall and four of the last five visits to Staples Center/Crypto.com Arena.
The Lakers have been underachieving as home favorites (8-15 vs. the number) but Portland’s 33% cover mark at home mitigates some of LA’s previous struggles.
LeBron James will miss his 4th straight game in this one with a sore knee, but Anthony Davis was upgraded to probable with his wrist problem and G Russell Westbrook has been straightening his business (23 ppg, 6 rpg, 7 apg and shooting 55% in his last five games.
Not sure Jusuf Nurkic is going to have a whole lot of success defending Davis, who’s making his first appearance this season against the Blazers after scoring 25 ppg and grabbing 11 rpg in the series last year.
On the other side of the ledger, Portland is without Damian Lillard, who’s been out of service for since late December, and he was by far the top scorer for the Blazers against the Lakers last season, scoring 35 ppg and shooting 57%. Play LA Lakers and the Over.
