Portland Trail Blazers vs Los Angeles Clippers Predictions
- LA Clippers -3 at Portland Trail Blazers
- Total: 215 Points
- The Clippers have won eight of the last nine meetings in this series.
These are two teams that shouldn’t be at the top of your list of teams to back right now, but they play each other and we’ll try and profit off of it. The Clippers are struggling mightily as they had lost seven out of ten games before beating the Lakers thanks to…Marcus Morris and Luke Kennard? Yes, the unlikely duo went 11-17 from three pointers to take down the Lakers, but in Clippers fashion they followed that game up with a loss to Sacramento.
Portland is struggling even worse though as they have one win in their last six games, and now we are hearing reports of Lillard talking about how he prefers the Knicks or 76ers as his team of choice. So how will tomorrow’s game turn out?
Three out of the last four for LA has gone over this total and four out of six has gone over this total for Portland so defense has been lacking. On the season, Portland is bottom 10 in defending point guards, small forwards, strong forwards and centers. Not good.
The Clippers are better against forwards, but not so much against guards as they give up over 24 points a game to point guards. I’ve decided to not look at ATS records for the season for these teams as the beginning of the seasons look very different than the current form of the teams, but to illustrate their recent struggles, the Clippers and Trailblazers are tied for worst in the NBA in their last five games going 1-5 ATS. Both are losing a majority of their games, so what do we do with these two teams who are underachieving?
Listen, I’m not excited to back the Clippers, but the Trailblazers are an organization in turmoil. They fired their GM, and it appears Lillard is getting closer to getting moved. Their only win the last 10 days is against Detroit, and they are coming off a 31 point loss to San Antonio and a 28 point loss to Boston…both at home. The Clippers haven’t been winning many games either, but they aren’t losing by 30+. The Trailblazers roster is showing how much Lillard has covered up for them, and I expect a really rough run for Portland the next couple of weeks. I’ll take the Clippers to win as they are rested and don’t have the internal issues that Portland does that has to be distracting for the players. Clippers are the play to win, smaller play on the over.

Portland Trail Blazers vs Los Angeles Clippers from The GoldSheet
Portland is the worst defensive team in the league this season, and that hasn’t changed lately as the Blazers have dropped 5 of their last 6 SU and against the points, allowing 122.5 points per 100 possessions in that run, for a total net rating of -14.6 pph. Portland foes have scored 120 ppg and shot more than 50% from the field in the last 5 of those games, as the team misses Damian Lillard (likely out at least a few more games) and doesn’t know if CJ McCollum (rib injury) will be ready to go in this one.
The Clippers are 8-1 last 9 SU against Portland, although most of those games were with Kawhi Leonard available. However, LA already won 2 of 3 in the series this season, with Paul George scoring 27 ppg and making 46% of his treys, and Reggie Jackson and Luke Kennard combining for 30 ppg, with Kennard making 55% of his triples. Lillard and McCollum are the Blazers’ best players, just can’t recommend Portland. Play the over.
