Atlanta Hawks
The last two weeks have found Atlanta playing as they did in the previous summer postseason. Winners of five consecutive games have vaulted the Hawks into 6th place in the East.
Since De’Andre Hunter’s wrist injury has resulted in his inactive status, the Hawks have been the most effecient lineup in the Association. The combination of Young, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Kevin Huerter, John Collins, and Clint Capela has a +59 Net Rating as a rotation.
During Atlanta’s five-game winning streak, the offense has scored 122 points per 100 possessions.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs have scored 105.5 points per 100 possessions inside of their five-game losing streak.
The Dejounte Murray and Jakob Poeltl pick and roll combination have been inefficient across the team’s last five games.
The Spurs are allowing 110.0 points per game on the season; however, they have surrendered over 115.0 ppg during the five-game slide.
The last two weeks have seen the Spurs fall 3.5 games outside of the Western conference’s 10th and final postseason slot.
Doug McDermott is the team’s most effective scorer from the three-point line shooting 43.9 percent and averaging more than two makes per game.
San Antonio draws the fewest fouls resulting in free throws in the league. However, the team has the lowest success rate at the free-throw line in all the NBA.

Across the last two weeks, the Hawks rank as the top offense in the league with 119.7 points per 100 possessions and are 15th defensively, surrendering 108.3 with a +11.4 Net Rating. San Antonio Spurs vs Atlanta Hawks Analysis from The GoldSheet
A bit of a walk on the wild side here, trusting the Hawks to win a game on the road, something they have failed to do in eight of nine chances thus far in the still-young season. But since their last away game in November 12 (a 105-96 loss at Denver), Nate McMillan’s troops have won five in a row, and just a bucket away on Monday vs. Oklahoma City from spread covers in five straight, too. It might be more than just the friendly State Farm Arena that fueled the turnaround; McMillan also has altered the rotations after DeAndre Hunter’s injury, and with Kevin Huerter now in the starting five, ATL is scoring almost 129 points per 100 possessions, the second-best mark in the league among lineups with at least 75 minutes of court time.
Meanwhile, Coach Pop continues to operate on short rations, with the Spurs losing five in a row in their latest slump (only one cover in that span), with the defense actually playing worse since 7-foot Jakob Poeltl’s recent return forma seven-game absence. If ATL really is taking flight, we’ll take our chances that it can get beyond its recent road bug-a-boo, especially vs. this foe, tonight. Play Atlanta.
