Timberwolves vs Hornets Analysis
The Charlotte Hornets take a trip to Minnesota to face the Timberwolves at Target Center on Tuesday night. The Twolves are coming off a 129-120 victory over the Pacers on Superbowl Sunday. On Saturday night the Charlotte Hornets suffered a 125-118 home loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. Charlotte won a home shootout 133-115 in the first head-to-head meeting back in late November.
Hornets Can’t Afford Another Losing Streak
The Charlotte Hornets sit at .500 after losing 7 of their last 8 games with their only victory being against the Detroit Pistons. The Hornets are now in 9th place in the Eastern Conference only 1.5 games away from missing the play-in tournament. Terry Rozier fell an assist short of a triple double with 35 points and 10 rebounds only a day after he recorded his first of the season.
Gordon Hayward, Cody Martin and Jalen McDaniels will all miss Tuesday nights game with injuries. The Hornets are all offense and no defense. They rank 2nd in points scored with 113.8 a game, but 28th in points allowed with 114.6 a game.
Minnesota Coming Off Victory Over Indiana
The Minnesota Timberwolves improved to 30-27 after snapping a two game losing streak with a victory over the Indiana Pacers. The Twolves sit a 7th place in the Western Conference, just two games away from a guaranteed playoff spot. Edwards had a game high 37 points, while Karl Anthony-Towns added 15 point, 13 rebound double double against Indiana.
The Wolves sport a clean injury report coming into Tuesday night. They have the 5th ranked offense with 113.3 points a game and rank 22nd with 111.7 points allowed to their rivals.
Timberwolves vs Hornets Prediction
The Minnesota Timberwolves are 6.5 point favorites with a huge total of 244.5. Both teams play horribly on defense but have great offensive production. They rank first and third in pace of play respectively. The Hornets cleared 244.5 in one of their last two games, while landing on 243 in the game they fell short.
The T-Wolves have eclipsed this total in all of their last four games. There should be plenty of possessions and scoring in this one. It seems like teams are abandoning defense as the All-Star break approaches, so we will go over here.
Official Play: OVER 244 Points
Timberwolves vs Hornets Preview from GoldSheet
Charlotte dip continued on Saturday against Memphis, as the Hornets dropped the 7th in their last 8 straight-up and now stand just 3-9 against the points in their last 12, but must note James Borrego’s team has won and covered four-straight against the Timberwolves, including a 133-115 victory at the Spectrum Center on Nov. 26.
Kelly Oubre Jr. had 27 pts. in 27 minutes off the bench for the Hornets that night, as Minny allowed the Hornets to shoot 58% from beyond the arc (23 of 40 treys!). Still, Gordon Hayward, who had 18 pts., 6 boards and six dimes while shooting 7-of-13 that night is out this time around and Oubre is shooting 39% in his last eight games (19% from beyond the arc in last three games replacing Hayward in the starting lineup).
Timberwolves have been extremely tough at home lately, winning six-straight and 9 of 10 straight-up at the Target Center, covering eight of those, and Minnesota ranks 3rd in the league in offensive efficiency over the last 10 games, but also comes in at 23rd defensively in that span, allowing 116 points per 100 opponents possessions.
Hornet games running high-scoring as well, and the T-wolves are 16-3 “over” last 19, but this is just about as high as we’ve seen a regular season game.
