Toronto Raptors vs Phoenix Suns Analysis

A really fun game tonight that should be an entertaining watch takes place in Toronto as the Phoenix Suns come to town as -4 point favorites over the Raptors with the total being set at 223. Both teams are playing well as Phoenix comes in with their big three healthy, and Toronto is riding a six game winning streak, so expect a high quality game…and we’ll try and find a high quality wager for this one.

Suns Rising?

Phoenix got Deandre Ayton back last game at Miami, but it ended up being the Heat who prevailed as they hit 22-44 three pointers. Ayton only took five shots as that game looked more like a “Welcome back, get some reps in” type of game. The Suns are a bit hard to handicap in this one as this is only the second game in a row with their full roster since Christmas. Before Christmas, when they had Ayton, they had won five straight, and four of those games by 12 or more points, and early in the season with their full cast they had the 18 game win streak, but they were not reliable to cover the spread in most of those games.

Raptors are Rolling

The Raptors have looked fantastic in 2022 as they’ve ripped off six straight wins behind strong offensive performances from VanVleet, and strong inside games from Siakam. Their last game against New Orleans came in under the total, but the five games before that flew over the total as the Raptors scored 116 or more in that five game stretch. They’re 8-2 against the spread their last ten games and 4-1 their last five games, but they’ve gotten quite fortunate in a couple of those games.

When they played Milwaukee, Giannis and Holiday were out, and when they played Utah the Jazz sat everyone and put out a G-League team. So the two more recent tough games on paper ended up being easy wins. Their other wins came against the Clippers, Knicks, Spurs and Pelicans…four teams who don’t scare anyone right now. In fact, I have to go all the way back to November 24th to find an impressive win from them when they beat a healthy Memphis team. Every elite team they’ve played since then was resting stars or they lost to. Perfect example is Milwaukee as they’ve played the Bucks twice since December 1st, and Giannis didn’t play in either game. So tonight will be a good test to see if they’re the real deal.

Toronto Raptors vs Phoenix Suns Prediction

I can’t buy into Toronto until they beat a really good team, and they might be able to tonight, but they won’t be getting my money. The Suns are coming off a loss where Miami hit a barrage of shots, and Ayton got his return game out of the way. The Suns have lost back to back games only twice this season…one was the game against Memphis where Ayton was ruled out of the game right before tipoff, and the other was back on October 23rd and 27th. I expect a nice bounce back game from Phoenix as they clip the Raptors tonight.

Toronto Raptors vs Phoenix Suns Preview from GoldSheet

Toronto has won six straight and covered 12 of the last 15 games, as healthy Raptors rank 7th in net differential in that span, but Phoenix is 4th in the league in that category in that span, and HC Monty Williams has defensive stalwart Jae Crowder back in action. It’s been a bit madness going against Toronto at the Scotiabank Arena of late, as the Raptors are 10-2 straight up and against the points at home, a combination of their return to complete health and top form and a side function of some teams leaving a key player or two at home as they cross the border lest they test positive and become an immediate guest of the Canadian government in quarantine a la Novak Djokovic in Australia. In this case believe the Suns could have all hands available when they get on the plane and they have been better on the road (13-4 straight up) than on the road (17-5), with Deandre Ayton recently returned from protocols. Phoenix PG Chris Paul seems to be intense every night but so does Fred VanVleet (31 ppg lat eight games), as does C Pascal Siakam (23 ppg, 10 rpg last 13). And couldn’t help but notice Devin Booker shooting 10 of 37 in the last two games.
