Utah Jazz vs Chicago Bulls Analysis
The Chicago Bulls travel to Vivint Arena for an inter conference matchup with the Utah Jazz. The Jazz lost their fourth straight game as they were edged out 113-112 in Phoenix against the Suns. The Bulls are coming off a 123-119 overtime loss on the road against the Okahoma City Thunder.
This will be first of two meetings between these teams in a regular season series they split 1-1 last year. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 PM EST/6:00 PST.
Jazz Tuning Out
The Utah Jazz jumped out to an unexpectedly hot start and currently sit at 8th in the Western Conference with a 12-10 record. However they have struggled recently, losing four straight games as well as 7 of their last 9 games.
Jordan Clarkson led the team in scoring with 22 points in their most recent loss to the Phoenix Suns. Colin Sexton chipped in with 20 points while Lauri Markkanen added a 15 point 10 rebound double-double. Offense hasn’t been the issue as they rank 4th in scoring with 117.1 points a game on 47.2% from the floor.
They have multiple players who can get hot from beyond the arc as the team shoots the 10th highest three-point percentage at 36.8%. Defense has been an issue for this team as they have allowed 113+ points in 7 straight games. They allow 115.6 points per game on 47.8% shooting, ranking them 23rd & 25th respectively.
The Jazz defense have thrived on the perimeter, holding opponents to the 5th lowest shooting percentage of 33.8% from long distance. Rudy Gay (hand) and Mike Conley (leg) both remain out for this contest. Lauri Markkanen is questionable with a knee issue.
Bulls On The Road
The Chicago Bulls record dipped to 8-11 on the season after an overtime loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday. DeMar DeRozan led all scorers with 30 points on 12 of 27 from the field. Zach Lavine was right behind him with 27 points of his own while Nikola Vucevic added a 13 point 13 rebound double-double.
This is the third game of a six game west coast swing that the Bulls are currently 1-1 on. The Bulls have been shooting the lights out with the 2nd highest shooting percentage in the league at 47%.
However they still only rank 16th in scoring with 111.9 points per game. Derozan paces the team with 26.2 points a game on 51.7% from the field. Chicago has taken care of business at the charity stripe with the leagues 4th highest team free throw percentage at 83%.
The Chicago defense needs improvement to move up in the standings as the have the 3rd lowest adjusted defensive rating in the NBA. They allow 112 points a game on 47.3% shooting, ranking them 13th & 23rd respectively. Lonzo Ball remains out with a knee injury as the only player of note on the Bulls injury report.
Utah Jazz vs Chicago Bulls Player Prop Prediction
The Utah Jazz are favored by 1.5 points with a total set at 234.5. This should be a close entertaining game with plenty of scoring as both teams play little defense. The Jazz defense in particular has hit the skids as 7 straight opponents have scored 113 points or more against them.
One thing that stands out in the Utah defense allows the most points in the paint which is where DeMar DeRozan thrives. DeRozan has started to look like the dominant player he was last season after a slow start.
DeRozan has a points + rebounds + assists total set at 36.5, a number he has eclipsed in 5 straight games as well as 6 of his last 7 games. He averages a team high 12.4 drives per game is up over 14 in his last five games. Jaden McDaniels is known as an elite defender but DeRozan has thrived against him, scoring 30, 35 & 38 in his last three head-to-head meetings.
We have a small spread and a high total, so a blowout is less likely and points should be given away like candy to a baby. DeRozans usage is through the roof and he has scored 28+ points in 20 of his last 25 games with 20 shots or more.
The rebounds should come right along with the points as DeRozan lives in the paint. Let’s get on this trend before lines move out of reach!!
