Utah Jazz vs Oklahoma City Thunder Analysis
The Oklahoma City Thunder take a trip to Utah for a Western Conference showdown with the Jazz. Last night the Jazz struggled to a 121-115 overtime victory over the Memphis Grizzlies who were without the services of Ja Morant and Dillon Brooks.
Meanwhile the Thunder bounced back from an early deficit to ultimately beat the Portland Trailblazers 98-94. The Jazz have their sights set on a four game regular season series sweep of the Thunder.
They won 107-86 at home in their first game of the season and 110-104 & 116-103 on the road in Oklahoma City.
Avoiding Play-In Would Be Music to the Jazz Ears
It looks like the Utah Jazz will avoid the play-in after prevailing over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night.
Rudy Gobert led the team in both scoring and rebounding with an incredible 22 point, 21 rebound double double. Donovan Mitchell scored 20 points on a horrendous 6 for 24 shooting performance where he went only 1 for 9 from beyond the arc.
Utah now has a 2.5 game lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves. With only three games left to play and the tie-breaker in their back pocket the Jazz will avoid the play-in round.
They still have an outside shot of overtaking the Dallas Mavericks for the 4th seed and playing with homecourt advantage in round one.
Trent Forrest is out with a concussion and is the only player listed on the Jazz injury report. The Jazz offense has seen a drop in offensive production as they rank 7th in scoring on the season compared to 17th over their last 15 games.
Thunder Deal With Mysterious Run of “Injuries”
It seems like deja vu as Thunder player after Thunder player lands on injury report just like late last season. The list goes, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Lou Dort, Darius Bazley, Josh Giddey, Derrick Favors, Tre Mann, Ty Jerome and Mike Muscala.
It’s at the point where if the equipment manager was seen hitting a three-pointer he would be immediately shut down for the remainder season.
This rag tag group was able to overcome a Portland Trailblazers team in the same boat for a victory last night. Jaylen Hoard led OKC in scoring with 25 points…who?
The Thunder ran a tight seven man rotation with other big names like Zavier Simpson and Olivier Sarr. It seems pointless to go over any team stats for the season or currently as this is obviously a completely different team on the floor.
But it’s safe to assume this squad would be bottom of the barrel in both offense and defense.
Utah Jazz vs Oklahoma City Thunder Prediction
The Utah Jazz are huge 17.5 point favorites with the total set at 219.5. This spread is to large for any team, but especially a Jazz team that has been in such poor form.
However there is no way you will catch me backing this Thunder team regardless of the point spread. This game could end up being a complete throw away by both teams.
Rudy Gobert should have an absolute field day in the paint as the Thunder are undersized to begin with. I’m going to take a small play on the Thunder team total under.
But I honestly see way better betting options out there and would ultimately avoid this unpredictable game. Take that Thunder team total under, but only with pizza and beer money.
Prediction: Oklahoma City Thunder Team Total Under 100.5
