Utah Jazz vs Portland Trail Blazers Predictions

  • Utah Jazz -7.5 vs Portland Trail Blazers
  • Total: 223 Points
  • Utah has won eight of the last 11 meetings at home between these two teams.
  • Portland is 1-9 against the spread on the road this season.

The Trailblazers finish their three game road trip with a game at Utah on Monday, and on the flip side the Jazz will be playing their third straight home game as part of their four game home stand. When we talk about the Blazers, we obviously have to talk about the home road splits and just how glaring they are. Portland is 7-3 ATS at home and 3-6 ATS on the road, and they only have one road win this entire season and that was against the hapless Rockets. Wednesday they lost by four to the Kings, and Friday they were dominated by the Warriors in a 15 point loss.

The Jazz are 13-7 this season, but they have slowed down after winning six of their first seven games of the season, and they are 2-2 in their last four games, which is a disappointment as all four of those games were against teams under .500. Nothing stands out for Utah ATS as they are 11-9 on the year and 6-5 at home. These two teams played three times last year, and I do think it’s worth noting that the Jazz won two out of three, and their wins were by 20 and 17 with full squads, and the loss was late in the season with no Donavan Mitchell, and Mitchell should be playing Monday.

There are some player props that I really like in this game, but for the full game ATS and Totals recommendations I just can’t overlook how bad Portland is on the road. They are 1-9 covering the spread on the road and with them losing their last two games, both on the road, I can’t trust Portland with my money in this spot. Utah is middle of the road defending guards, and traditionally Damian Lillard has torched the Jazz as he averages over 27 points a game in his career, but the last two years he’s averaged 31.5 points per game.

Unfortunately for Portland, McCollum has not had the same success as he’s only putting up 18.7 points per game against Utah, and they will need him to contribute more than that to stay close. Gobert has held Nurkic to under 10 points a game average in their matchups where Gobert has averaged 14 points and 12.4 rebounds a game, so give the edge inside to Utah. Portland is getting the 5th least amount of production from forwards this season and with Nurkic and McCollum’s struggles against Utah, I’ll take the Jazz -7.5 small.

Player Props: If the books put up points number on McCollum around 19.5, take the under. He averages less than 19 points a game on the road, and he’s scored 16 and 13 the first two games of the road trip. I would also look at an under to Donovan Mitchell on his Points+Rebounds+Assists. Utah has been spreading the ball around and Mitchell has gone under his season scoring average in six out of seven games, and books are always going to inflate the over number on Mitchells props. If you can get an under 34.5 number, that’s worth a sprinkle in my opinion.

Official Play: Utah -7.5
Player Prop: McCollum UNDER points total (if the total is 19.5 or higher)

Utah Jazz vs Portland Trail Blazers Analysis from The GoldSheet

First meeting of the season between these Northwest Division adversaries, and the Jazz have won 8 of the last 11 SU at the Vivint Smart Home Arena facing the Trail Blazers, although Portland is 3-4 SU and 4-3 vs. the points in Salt Lake City in the last 7 of those visits. Jazz also only 3-4 SU and vs. the number in last 7 at home. But, and it’s a big but, HC Quin Snyder’s Portland side has lost team facing a Portland side that’s 1-9 SU and against the points on the road this season, with the lone road victory coming facing the pathetic Rockets in Houston. No thanks, we’ll stick to the Jazz. Play Utah.
