Warriors vs Mavericks Analysis
At 35-25 the Mavericks occupy fifth place in the West with 3.5 games of separation between a guaranteed playoff spot and the play-in round.
At 43-17 the Warriors have the second-best record in the NBA, which puts them six games behind the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference.
The Warriors dropped the first head-to-head meeting 99-82 in Dallas early in January. They got revenge later in the month with a 130-92 beat down back home at the Chase Center. In just four days, they will meet for the fourth and final time at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
Mavs’ New Pieces Starting to Click
The Dallas Mavericks have won two of three games since Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans joined the team, including impressive wins against the Miami Heat and New Orleans Pelicans. Even in a 114-109 loss in Utah against the Jazz the new players found a way to shine. Dinwiddie and Bertans scored 20 and 17 points on a combined 14 for 21 from the field and 8 for 12 from beyond the arc while coming off the bench.
Luka Doncic has continued to thrive as he led the team with a 23 point 11 assist triple double. Doncic has been on an amazing run, he’s scored 45 points or more in three of his last five games with a double double in four of those five games. Dallas comes into the game sporting a clean injury report.
The Mavs have a top notch defense that ranks seconnd with only 103.5 points allowed per game. Offensively the Mavs rank 24th with only 106.7 points per game.
Warriors Fight Through Rough Patch
The Golden State Warriors had lost four of five games prior to dismantling the Trailblazers 132-95 Thursday night in Portland. Maybe the All-Star break was what they needed to turn the tides. Steph Curry led eight double digit Warrior scorers with 18 points and 14 dimes. Curry leads the team with 25.7 points per game on the season. Their biggest positive was their ability to shoot over 50% from the floor as a team.
It will be interesting to see what the Warriors look like when Draymond Green returns action in addition to Klay Thompson. Green remains out for another 3-4 weeks and Andre Iguodala will also be out for Sundays contest. Speaking of Thompson, he is currently listed as questionable with an illness.
The Warriors’ defense has taken a step back but still ranks fourth with only 103.6 points allowed per game to their opponents. They score 111 points a game which ranks 10th in the NBA.
Warriors vs Mavericks Prediction
The Golden State Warriors have opened as 3-point home favorites with the total sitting at 218.5 points. Both defenses are top four in terms of points allowed. The Mavs have allowed an average of 107 points over their last four games, while the Warriors have allowed only 110 points over their last three games.
Dallas is dead last in pace of play, while the Warriors are middle of the pack. The Mavs continue to be the best under bet in the league, the under has cashed in 27 of their last 40 games. The Warriors have stayed under the total in six of their own last eight games played on two days rest. I see Mavericks I think under and the Warriors defense is more than capable of doing their part.
