Warriors vs Mavericks Analysis
The Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors go head-to-head in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals from the Chase Center on Thursday night.
The Mavericks avoided a sweep and elimination on Tuesday night with a 119-109 victory at home. The Warriors have the opportunity to advance to NBA Finals for the first time since way back in 2018.
Obviously that comment is tongue in cheek, but they were a part of the finals in the four straight seasons prior to that point. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 PM EST/6:00 PST.
Warriors Sights Set On Returning To Finals
The big three of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green could return to the NBA Finals for the first time in four years. Back then it was them and Lebron James Cavaliers on a yearly basis.
Now they have a new supporting cast and more importantly a healthy big three. The Mavs came out with an inspired effort in Game 4, scored early and often, built a 15-point halftime lead and never looked back.
Steph Curry mentioned after the game that Dallas had nothing to lose, came out firing while the Warriors didn’t do enough to slow them down. Curry finished the game with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
Johnathan Kuminga was 2nd in scoring on the team, with 17 points off the bench. It probably didn’t help that Golden State shot only 65% from the charity stripe, only hitting 17 of their 26 free throws. After this down game, you can expect a more inspired effort from the Warriors in Game 5.
Mavericks Rain Three’s At Home
Luka Doncic had one of his signature performances in Game 4 with 30 points,14 rebounds and 9 assists, falling just one assist shy of a triple double.
The game was delayed at halftime for an additional 16 minutes as a leaky roof caused wet spots on the court. The roof wasn’t the only thing raining as the Mavericks hit 20 of their 43 attempts from long distance for 46.5%.
Dorian Finney-Smith scored 23 points going 4 for 7 from beyond the arc. Reggie Bullock scored all 18 of his points from three-point land going 6 for 10 in the process.
Dallas three-pointers were falling in Game 4 which proved to be the difference when compared to the first three games. The Mavs have the opportunity to become the first team that has overcome a 3-0 deficit in playoff history.
Only three of 146 teams that fell behind 3-0 were even able to force a Game 7. Still, if they can steal one tonight, they are back home in Game 6 and if you force a Game 7 anything can happen as they say.
Warriors vs Mavericks Prediction
The Golden State Warriors are 7-point home favorites with a total of 215.5. The Warriors blew the Mavericks doors off in the first three games of this series and Dallas responded in Game 4.
However, Golden State didn’t get the normal scoring production from their starters, as Klay Thompson only scored 12 and Andrew Wiggins only scored 13.
The Mavs built an early lead and the Warriors had a blowout on their hands. I’m fully expecting a completely different effort from the three future hall of famers tonight at home.
The Warriors don’t want to go back to Dallas. They much rather lock this thing up and rest in preparation for the bruised and battered team that ultimately comes out of the East. Lay the points with Golden State.
Prediction: Golden State Warriors -7
