Washington Wizards vs Charlotte Hornets Predictions
- Washington Wizards -4 vs Charlotte Hornets
- Total: 215.5 Points
- Washington is 7-1 straight-up and against the spread at Capital One Arena this season.
- The under is 11-5 in Washington’s 16 games this season.
The Charlotte Hornets will travel to Capital One Arena for an Eastern Conference matchup with the Washington Wizards. They sit at 10-8 after losing 115-105 in Atlanta on Saturday night. Prior to that the Hornets had won five in row directly after a five game losing streak. The Washington Wizards are off to an impressive start with a division leading 11-5 record after winning 6 of their last 8 games. The Wiz are coming off a 103-100 win at home against the Miami Heat after losing the prior game to them on the road. Washington has been truly dominant at home with a 7-1 record both straight up and against the spread, while Charlotte is 4-6 both straight up and ATS on the road. These teams have faced off already this season in Charlotte where the Hornets prevailed 97-87 with 6 players scoring double digits.
The new look Washington Wizards are 2nd place in the Eastern Conference which is a far cry from some horrible starts in season’s prior. Superstar Bradley Beal is their leader but has also assumed a completely different role. He’s become more of a facilitator while averaging a career low shooting percentage and scoring only 23.9 points a game which is his lowest average since the 2018 season. Head coach Wes Unseld Jr. has brought a defensive culture to the team and its paid dividends as they are 3rd in defensive rating while allowing the 7th least opponent points per game. New pieces like Kyle Kuzma and Kentavius Caldwell-Pope have made it so Beal doesn’t have to carry the entire offensive workload and his assists are up to an average of 5.6 a game. The Wiz are off to an outstanding start and it will be interesting to see how they fare going forward.
The Charlotte Hornets have gotten things done with a completely different style to the Wiz. The Hornets run and gun offense ranks 3rd in pace of play and 2nd in scoring with an average of 112.3 points a game. They have multiple players who can score double digits in any given game between Lamelo Ball, Miles Bridges, Terry Rozier amongst others. For as good as the Hornets have been on offense they have struggled equally on defense. Charlotte has a lowly defensive rating that ranks 28th while allowing 113.7 points a game which is the 2nd most in the association.
Looking at recent history the Hornets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 head-to-head meetings. The Hornets have a clear-cut offensive edge while the Wiz are leagues better on defense. One thing to take note in is the Wiz are far better early in games with an 8-6-1 first half ATS record compared to the Hornets league worst first half ATS record of 4-10-2. The early line has the Wizards as 4 point favorites with a total set at 214.5. Considering this Washington should be a two point first half favorite.
The Wizards have a significant advantage at home and on defense. Based on that and how poorly Charlotte has played early in games, my official play will be Washington -2 in the first half. I also think the Wiz come out with revenge on their minds after losing in Charlotte less than a week ago. As we mentioned earlier in this article Bradley Beal assists numbers have been very impressive of late to say the least. He’s had 5 or more assists in 7 straight and 9 of his last 10 games. We actually cashed a ticket on his assists over prop of 4.5 in his last game. I would expect the line to be set at 5.5 with normal juice around -115 to -120. Considering the Hornets pace of play we’ll also make a confident play on Beal going over 5.5 assists.
Official Play: Washington Wizards 1st Half -2
Official Prop Play: Beal OVER 5.5 assists (with reasonable juice)

Washington Wizards vs Charlotte Hornets Analysis from The GoldSheet
Streaky Charlotte had its five-game win-and-cover streak stopped in Atlanta on Saturday, and Hornets could well be on the verge of a downturn, as they’ve shot only 33.6% from beyond the arc. Charlotte covered the spread in both trips to visit the Wizards last season, although it was Washington that compiled a 9-2 straight-up mark as host in the series prior to that. Wizards have changed their spots this season, ranking 4th in the league in defensive efficiency, and ranks 3rd in the NBA in terms of slowing the pace down. Play Washington.
