Washington Wizards vs Miami Heat Analysis

The Miami Heat travel to Washington for an Eastern Conference clash with the Wizards on Monday night. The Wizards fell to 24-28 after suffering a 95-80 home loss to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night. Meanwhile, the Miami Heat maintained their top spot in the East with a 104-86 road victory over the Charlotte Hornets.

This is the fourth and final game in the head-to-head series between these squads where the home team has prevailed in every game. They split a home at home back in November, Miami won 112-97 and Washington won 103-100. The 3rd game was a 119-112 Heat triumph on December 28th.

Turning Up The Heat In The East

The Miami Heat are now 34-20 after winning six of their last nine games, including their last two. They lead the Eastern Conference by the slimmest of margins, as only a game and half separate the top five teams. In their most recent victory over Charlotte, Jimmy Butler led the way with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Bam Adebayo also added a 20 point, 12 rebound double double.

This is the fifth game of a six game road trip, the Heat are 2-2 so far on the trip. The Heat have been a part of trade rumors with tanking teams including the Houston Rockets center Christian Wood. Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Caleb Martin and Max Strus are all listed as questionable for Monday nights game. The Miami defense ranks 4th in points allowed with only 104.4 points allowed per game to their rivals and 16th with 108.7 points scored a game.

Nothing Magical For Beal-less Wizards

Since Bradley Beal went down with an injury the Washington Wizards are 1-2 while somehow figuring out a way to beat the Philadelphia 76ers. Washington has only managed 95 points a game on a lowly 41% from the field without Beal on the court. At 24-28 they are 1.5 games out of the play-in tournament. Without Beal, the Wiz have major issues as he led the team in both scoring and assists.

This team is definite selling team at the trade deadline where multiple players could be dealt. The Wizards had to rely on Kyle Kuzma to lead that way, but he only scored 9 points on 3 of 12 shooting in their last game against the Phoenix Suns. Kuzma does average 16.2 points and 8.8 rebounds on the season. Outside of Beal, Daniel Gafford has also been ruled on for Monday nights contest. The Wiz rank 22nd in points scored with 106.9 a game and 17th in points allowed with 109.7 per game.

Washington Wizards vs Miami Heat Prediction

The Miami Heat come into this contest as 6 point favorites with the total set at 209. The Miami Heat are 6-2 against the spread in their last 8 games against teams with losing records. The Washington Wizards are 0-5 ATS in their last five home games. Without Beal, the Wiz are among the worst teams in the NBA.

Meanwhile the Heat are playing well on both sides of the ball and should have little trouble dominating the glass against the Wiz. The Heat could rest players, but with Tuesday and Wednesday off why bother? The Heat didn’t play on Sunday and rested during the 4th quarter of a blowout against Charlotte on Saturday. Our official play will be on the Miami Heat laying the 6 points on the road.

Official Play: Miami Heat -5.5

Washington Wizards vs Miami Heat Preview from GoldSheet

Amazingly, Washington is still hanging at the periphery of play-in territory, though the longer Beal stays sidelined, the harder it will be to squeeze into the postseason. This will also be the fourth meeting vs. the heat, with Miami winning two of the previous three, though Wash did slip inside of an 8-point spread in a 119-112 loss at AA Arena the last time these teams faced on Dec. 28. Tyler Herro was the star that night for the Heat with 32 points, but he’s also one of several on the Miami side including jimmy Butler (toe), Max Strus (quad), and Caleb Martin (Achilles) on the injury report for tonight, all listed questionable and game-time decisions, so we’re not quite sure what we’ll be getting on the floor from the Heat.

Miami, however, has plenty of depth (Bam Adebayo, Kyle Lowry, and Duncan Robinson all good to go) and experience playing shorthanded this season, and chances seem remote that all of those mentioned above sit out tonight after impressive back-to-back road wins at the Spurs and Hornets when the defense really turned the screws, allowing only 90.5 ppg in a pair of romps.
