NFL Regular Season MVP Trends

*The quarterback position has dominated the MVP, winning the award in each of the last 11 seasons and 16 of the last 17 seasons. The last non-quarterback to win the award was Adrian Peterson in 2012.

*Lamar Jackson won the MVP last season, he and Patrick Mahomes will both be looking to become the 7th player to win three MVPs.

Only two players have won more than three: Peyton Manning (5) and Aaron Rodgers (4). During the last six seasons, Jackson, Mahomes and Rodgers have each won two MVPs.

*Eleven players have won the Super Bowl and MVP in the same season and all but four of those also won the Super Bowl MVP.

2024-25 NFL MVP Predictions

The Cincinnati Bengals are currently ranked 5th (+1300) in terms of favorites to win the Super Bowl this coming season and 3rd in the AFC behind only Kansas City and Baltimore.

Injuries have slowed Joe Burrow’s progress in two of his four seasons but when he is healthy and on the field, he is still ranks among the elite quarterbacks in the league.

Burrow owns a 5-1 record against Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen in his career which shows his ability to compete with the best.

The Bengals were one win away from the Super Bowl two years ago and this season seems like a Super Bowl or bust scenario. The key offensive weapons are in the final years of their contracts as Tee Higgins has been franchise tagged and Ja’Marr Chase only has two years left on his deal.

Veteran running back Joe Mixon has moved on to the Houston Texans and Zach Moss has taken over starting running back duties which could put the ball in Burrow’s hands more often. If Burrow stays healthy and the Bengals return to form Burrow will have a strong case to win his first MVP award.

2024-25 NFL MVP Longshot Prediction

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was having an MVP-caliber season in 2022 before multiple concussions derailed his season.

Despite the injuries, he still led the NFL in QB rating, touchdown rate and yards per attempt. Tagovailoa continued to play strong in 2023 and as long as he has weapons like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, he should be viewed as a threat to win the MVP.

His +2500-price tag is appealing considering it groups him amongst players like Justin Herbert, Anthony Richardson and Trevor Lawrence.
