2024 NFL Draft: Draft Position Odds
The six players listed above are six of the most interesting prospects in this year’s draft. Bo Nix and J.J. McCarthy are both quarterbacks. Rome Odunze is considered by many to be the WR3 in this class, but teams are certainly interested in his skillset. Brian Thomas is another receiver who is received a ton of buzz.
Joe Alt is an offensive tackle, and Byron Murphy is a defensive tackle. NFL teams prioritize players in the trenches, so both of these players will be looked at. Where they get selected in the 2024 NFL Draft is another question, and there are many factors that play into this.
2024 NFL Draft: Draft Position Best Bets
J.J. McCarthy Draft Position Over 5.5 +185
J.J. McCarthy has shot up draft boards since winning the National Championship with Michigan this past season. Michigan ran a run-first offense, but McCarthy still made plays when he needed to. He threw two picks in the first game of the CFP playoff against TCU, but he was relatively mistake-free in the National Championship.
McCarthy has been lauded for his character, leadership skills, and locker-room presence, but his statistics were middle of the pack. He did improve from 2022 to 2023, but he was not asked to lead his team.
Based on the draft order and needs of other teams, it seems as if the most likely teams to select McCarthy would need to trade up in order to do so. New England (Pick 3), Arizona (Pick 4), and Los Angeles (Pick 5) are all trade-down candidates, so in order for McCarthy to be selected, a trade would need to go down.
Based on our evaluation of McCarthy and the needs of the aforementioned teams, we do not anticipate a trade-up to select the Michigan QB. We believe teams think he can fall past pick five and be available later in the 2024 NFL Draft. At plus money, this is a great bet to make.
Rome Odunze Draft Position Under 8.5 -105
Marvin Harrision Jr. and Malik Nabers have garnered the most attention, but Rome Odunze is still an amazing prospect teams will highly covet. Odunze being selected inside the top 8 is dependent on trades, but based on our belief that there will not be as many trades in the top 5 as anticipated, this bet makes sense.
Odunze put on a show this past season and cemented himself into the conversation as the WR2 or WR3 in the 2024 NFL Draft. Teams like the Cardinals, Chargers, and Giants could all use skill players and all three teams draft in the top six.
All three of these teams also have quarterbacks (how good they are is another question), so it would be fair to assume these teams are looking to add weapons. With that being said, tradebacks are always on the table, so this needs to be considered.
