Sam Darnold led the Minnesota Vikings to unexpected heights last season. Unless the Vikings pull off a surprising move, second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy will get the reins after missing all of his rookie season due to injury. Minnesota added some key pieces on defense to help that unit keep up with the Vikings’ high-flying offense.

The division was decided on the final week of the regular season when Detroit beat the Vikings to win the NFC North and earn the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.

QBs on Roster: J.J. McCarthy (2nd Year w/ Team, but did not play in 2024); and Brett Rypien (2nd Year w/ Team).

Coaching Changes: No major changes. Head coach Kevin O’Connell, offensive coordinator Wes Phillips and defensive coordinator Brian Flores all return.

Key Acquisitions: Defensive lineman Javon Hargrave; Defensive lineman Jonathan Allen; Cornerback Jeff Okudah; Center Ryan Kelly; Running back Jordan Mason; and cornerback Isaiah Rodgers

Key Departures: Left tackle Cam Robinson; Safety Cam Bynum; Edge rusher Patrick Jones II; Starting QB Sam Darnold; Reserve QB Daniel Jones; and reserve QB Nick Mullens. Cornerback Stephon Gilmore remains an unsigned free agent.

• Mid-May – Schedule release. The NFL is reportedly hoping to have the schedule released in the window of May 13-15.
• Mid-July – Training camps open
• July 31 – Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio
• September 4 – The Philadelphia Eagles will host the first regular season game.
• September 5 – The Los Angeles Chargers will serve as the host for the second game in São Paulo, Brazil against an opponent to be determined.
• February 9 – Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
