Arizona Cardinals vs Green Bay Packers Predictions
- Arizona Cardinals -6.5 vs Green Bay Packers
- Total: 50.5 Points
- Since losing to the Saints in Week 1, Green Bay has won and covered the spread in its last six games.
- Over the last three seasons, Arizona is 16-5 against the spread in Weeks 1-7, but 7-10-1 ATS in the second half of the year.
The big news for the game surrounds Davante Adams who looks like he might be unavailable for the game. The Cardinals are around 6 points favorites right now at home, and at first glance that number seems way too high. I think it’s accurate regarding the Davante Adams news. Earlier this year we predicted the game between Arizona and Jacksonville would be close because Arizona would run a vanilla offense to get ready for the Rams the next game, and they ran a basic offense and beat the Rams by more than they beat the Jaguars. The Cardinals get a scheduling break again by getting the Texans the week before the Packers, and they are coming off a 31-5 win as well as a dominating 37-14 win over Cleveland the week before that. So this sets them up well to show some new looks and new formations to the Packers in a big game. Arizona is 8th best in the NFL in yards per play, but against the Rams they were in the top 5 of the league signaling they have some secrets for elite opponents.
For the Packers, the loss of Adams cannot be understated. There aren’t more than a couple of wide receivers in the NFL who would have an affect on the line of the game, but Adams is one of them as he’s a top 3 wide receiver and Rodgers depends on him. Adams has 744 yards receiving , only two other receivers have over 100 yards receiving. The running game might not be in great shape as AJ Dillion is coming off a two fumble game, and Aaron Jones has been inconsistent this year as he has had 19, 76, 103, and 48 yards rushing the last four games. I’m not sure what position players can replace the production of Adams, especially on third down.
Both these teams are 6-1 against the spread, so I’m going to avoid this spread as I believe Arizona will win this game, but I’m not willing to lay the points. However, I will be playing the under 51.5 here. Both teams have been under teams this season as Green Bay has hit the under 71.4% of the time, and Arizona has hit their under 57.1% of the time. On a short week without Davante Adams, and Kyler Murray being a bit banged up on his shoulder, this number is a few points too high. It’s tough to picture these offenses putting up an under, but that’s where the value is in this game for me.

Arizona Cardinals vs Green Bay Packers Analysis from The GoldSheet
Arizona beat a sluggish start last week, spotting the offense-starved Houston Texans a 5-0 lead that held until there was 9:01 left in the second quarter. But this Thursday Night special will be a challenge, as Green Bay and has been nearly as hot as the Cardinals, winning and covering six-straight since dropping the opener in New Orleans, and now QB Aaron Rodgers is performing at MVP level and he and the Pack are catching points visiting the Cards. Arizona has been fast starters under Kliff Kingsbury, but this has been about the spot where Arizona starts to backslide a bit against the points. This game ought to proceed with playoff-like intensity (as it should, with possible postseason home-field implications), so see value in taking the points with Rodgers while expecting the Pack to hand Arizona its first loss of the season.
