RB Prop Prediction 1: Christian McCaffrey OVER 66.5 Rushing Yards (-125)
San Francisco 49ers running back is coming off a monster effort where he carried the ball 22 times for a staggering 152 yards and a touchdown while also catching three of five targets for 17 receiving yards.
His touchdown run was a 65-yard march, but he would have eclipsed this projected rushing total without it.
McCaffrey faced the Los Angeles Rams defense twice last season and cleared this total both times, once as a Carolina Panther where he recorded 69 rushing yards on 13 attempts and once as a 49er with 94 yards on 18 carries.
The Rams defense actually ranked 13th against the run last season with a little over 115 yards allowed per game. However, despite their recent success against the Seattle Seahawks they are projected to be one of the NFL’s worst defenses.
They also allowed a less talented back in Kenneth Walker III to fall just short of this number with 12 carries for 64 yards.
You can’t take too much away from a Week 1 victory and the 49ers also have more weapons to account for. The spread is 8 and the I could see San Francisco easily building a lead and running the ball late to ice the game.
Regardless, Mccaffrey looked great last week, and he was a perfect 2-2 against this number when playing the Rams last season.
RB Prop Prediction 2: Nick Chubb OVER 77.5 Rushing Yards (-135)
Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb kicked off the 2023 NFL season in glorious fashion with 18 carries for 106 yards while catching all four of his passes for 21 yards.
He was able to clear 100 rushing yards despite his counterpart and rookie running back Jerome Ford carrying the ball 15 times for only 36 yards.
Not only did Chubb average 3.5 more yards per carry than Ford but the rookie also fumbled in the red zone during the first quarter. While the fumble didn’t impact Fords future carries that will change quickly if he makes another gaffe.
The Pittsburgh Steelers defense actually ranked 9th against the run last season with only 108.1 rushing yards allowed per game. However, they were absolutely carved up by the San Francisco 49ers running game in Week 1 with a total of 188 yards on 34 carries.
Christian McCaffrey in particular shredded the Steelers for 152 yards on 22 carries. Chubb faced the stronger version of the Pittsburgh run defense twice last season and ran for 113 yards on 23 carries in September and 77 yards on 12 carries in the final game of the season.
While i fully expect a better effort from the Steelers, this total still seems low based on Chubb’s recent history. Give me the over on this projected total for Week 2.
