WR Prop Prediction 1: Gabe Davis Under 46.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis finished the 2022 regular season with 48 receptions on 93 targets for 836 receiving yards and seven touchdowns across 15 games.
He fell short of clearing this total in 9 of those 15 regular season games and in one of two postseason games. Davis does have the ability to catch the deep ball and stack the yards as he displayed in games with totals of 171, 93 and 88 yards.
However, none of those games occurred against the New York Jets who held Davis to only 33 and 31 yards in their two head-to-head matchups.
It makes sense, considering the Jets held opposing receivers to fewest yards (1,857) in 2022. They did particularly well against Davis’s specific skill set as they held receivers who lined up wide to the fewest yards (1,104) and seventh-fewest yards (482) on deep passes.
Davis got a big helping of Sauce Gardner in those two games as he faced him on 50% of his routes in the first game and 36% in the second game (both more than Stefon Diggs). Davis will definitely explode in a handful of games this season, but they won’t be in games against the Jets.
WR Prop Prediction 2: Michael Pittman Jr Under 53.5 Receiving Yards (-110)
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr recorded 99 receptions on 141 targets for 925 yards and four touchdowns across 16 regular season games during the 2022 season.
Pittman Jr posted an exact 50/50 split to this receiving yard total with 8 games going over and 8 games going under this number. He has plenty of talent and he ranked 17th in the NFL in target share with 25.6% while nearly recording the quietest 100 reception season in recent memory.
However, I’m fading rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson in almost any prop under the sun outside of rushing yards.
Richardson is going to have plenty of growing pains and it’s going to affect Pittman Jr, especially early in the season. The Jacksonville Jaguars defense is going to put pressure on the young quarterback, and they limited opposing outside wide receivers to the 4th-fewest passing yards with 1.462.
Pittman Jr did have his best game of the season in his lone game against the Jags with 13 receptions for 134 yards, but this is a different season and I’m also fully expecting the Colts to focus on the run in an attempt to take pressure of Richardson.
As the season moves on, we may get to look Pittman Jr’s way on some overs but not in Week 1 with a rookie quarterback against superior competition.
