Chiefs vs Jets Prop Pick 1: New York Jets Team Total Under 15.5 (-105)
For years we have been conditioned to assume that every Kansas City Chiefs game would be a shootout with optional defense.
However, the total for Sunday night’s game against the New York Jets the total is only 41.5 despite the Chiefs being favored by 9.5 points.
The Chiefs defense currently ranks 4th in scoring and 6th in yards allowed with 13.3 points and 280.7 yards per game. They held the Chicago Bears to 10 last week, the Jacksonville Jaguars to 9 in Week 2 and the Detroit Lions to 21 on opening night.
Kansas City defensive end Mike Danna was quoted that they were actually smelling a shutout before the Bears kicked a chip shot field goal well into the 3rd quarter.
Now enter the horrendous Jets offensive attack that quarterback Zach Wilson hasn’t been able to get off the ground.
The Jets rank dead last in both scoring and yards with only 14 points and 225 yards per game. They have only managed to score 10 points in each of the last two weeks against the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys after scoring 22 on Buffalo behind a punt return for a touchdown in Week 1.
The only glimmer of hope that the Jets offense has shown was Breece Halls 83-yard run in Week 1, but he has managed only 71 yards in his other 25 carries combined.
This is obviously a low team total on first glance, but the Chiefs defense is legit, and this could be Zach Wilsons last game as the starter in the Big Apple.
Chiefs vs Jets Player Prop Pick 2: Travis Kelce Over 65.5 Receiving Yards (projected line)
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has been in the news quite a bit lately, but we will be focused on his receiving yards total for the purposes of this article.
After missing Week 1 due to injury, Kelce caught four of nine targets for 26 yards and a touchdown in Week 2. With a week under his belt, Kelce caught seven of eight targets for 69 yards and a touchdown last week against the Chicago Bears.
The New York Jets are known as an elite level pass defense, and they do rank top-10 against opposing wide receivers.
However, tight ends have exposed the Jets for 169 yards in 2023 which is 5th most in the league. Patriots’ tight ends Pharoah Brown, Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki combined for 106 yards last week and the Buffalo Bills tight ends Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid combined for 51 yards in Week 1.
The Dallas Cowboys didn’t get much production from the tight end position outside of Jake Ferguson catching a 4-yard touchdown pass but they didn’t really need it.
Kelce cleared this projected total in 10 of 17 (59%) regular season games and all three of his postseason games.
Considering the Jets ability to shut down receivers on the outside I’m fully expecting Patrick Mahomes to lean on Kelce as a safety blanket and push him up and over this projected total.
