Cincinnati Bengals vs Cleveland Browns Predictions

  • Cincinnati Bengals -3 vs Cleveland Browns
  • Total: 46.5 Points
  • The over is 6-0-1 in the last seven meetings between these two teams.
  • Cincinnati is 11-2 against the spread in the Bengals’ last 13 games against the Browns.
  • Cleveland is 6-2 against the spread in the Browns’ last eight road games.

Two teams coming off brutal losses are looking for rebound wins in the ultra competitive AFC North as the Bengals are 5-3 and the Browns 4-4 with the division leader Ravens only 5-2. The Browns are dealing with a shoulder injury to Mayfield, and now the Right Tackle for Cleveland, Jack Conklin, is out with an elbow injury. The Browns offense was already sputtering as they haven’t scored over 17 points in three straight games, and Mayfield was clearly not 100% as he threw for 225 yards and no touchdowns last week against Pittsburgh. They also have dealt with injuries to their running backs, but Chubb returned and got 16 carries against a nasty Pittsburgh defense, but the Browns were still only able to get 96 yards total. Not having Kareem Hunt takes a little bit of bite out of their offense, and that’s going to be an issue against Cincy, who is still a top 10 rush defense.

For the Bengals, last week was a classic let down spot against the Jets as they had a tough game the week before, and a tough game the week after…and they certainly let a lot of people down as it wrecked countless survivor pools, teasers and parlays. So what happened? Burrow threw for 259 and three TD’s, but their running game was non-existent. Sixteen carries for 41 yards isn’t going to get it done in the NFL, and on defense the Bengals played lazy, and had no film on the offense the Jets were going to run with Mike White. The combination of overlooking a team, and having no film on a motivated team, backup quarterback and coaching staff was enough to cost them a valuable win.
So what team rebounds and wins this matchup?

I don’t think the issues with the Browns offense are fixable in one week, and if the Bengals were looking ahead to the Browns, now they get their chance. Baker Mayfield is not 100%, Odell Beckham is a non-factor, Kareem Hunt is still injured, and injuries to the offensive line make this too hard for Cleveland to score enough points to beat Cincinnati. Since Kareem Hunt went out, they’ve lost the time of possession in two out of three games, and the game they did win TOP was against the reeling Broncos. I expect them to lose that battle again this week to a Bengals offense who has shown they can beat teams on the ground and through the air. The last two weeks the Brown have played below average offenses (Broncos and Steelers), and held those two teams to 17 and 15 points, but the two weeks before that against two good offenses (Cardinals and Chargers) they gave up 37 and 47 points. The Bengals average 27.5 points per game, Cleveland only averaging 22.9 points per games.

Both teams are motivated, but one has better health and more explosion on offense coming into this game which is why I’ll take the Bengals to cover at -2.5. Anything under 3 I would recommend, and I also will be playing the Browns team total under 21.5 as there is no big threat in the passing game so Cincy can key in on Nick Chubb and the running game which should cause another clunky Cleveland performance.

Official Plays: Bengals -2.5 and Browns Team Total UNDER 21.5

Cincinnati Bengals vs Cleveland Browns Analysis from The GoldSheet

Cleveland has had some success against Cincinnati since the arrival of QB Baker Mayfield, winning five of six meetings against the Bengals since he came to the team for the 2018 season. Mayfield missed the recent Thursday clash vs. Denver due to shoulder injury and has only produced six TD passes in his seven games this season. The return of WR Jarvis Landry is encouraging for the Cleveland side, but while he’s had five catches in each of the two games since he came back, he’s dropped some passes and had a costly fumble against the Steelers. Cincinnati has to be more than a bit embarrassed at losing to the Jets, allowing backup QB Mike White to complete 37-of-45 passes for 405 yards with three TD passes. That’s only the second time in in at least 71 years a QB threw for 400 yards in his first start, and the 37 completions are the record for most connections in a first start. That’s got to sting the Bengal defensive egos. Look for Joe Burrow to rally his troops, especially Joe Mixon, who couldn’t get much traction against the Jets.
